Description

Position Summary

The Inclusive Career Advancement Program (ICAP) Vocational Rehabilitation (Voc-Rehab) Career Coach serves Umatilla, Morrow, and Baker Counties to increase qualifying students’ and potential students’ connections to federal, state, local, and accessibility resources through deepened local and campus partnerships, expanded outreach and support for rural areas, and one-on-one student support as part of the (ICAP).

This role supports students as they access GED, second language learning support, career technical, and short-term training programs leading to economic self-sufficiency.  This position will be responsible for collecting, coordinating, and submitting data reports to the Director, Student Resources.  performs all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Mission, Vision, and Strategic Plan.

Essential Functions

  • Develop initial Individual Success Plan with each Voc Rehab student, addressing short- and long-term academic and career goals. Connect students in need with advising, tutoring, and supplemental instruction.  
  • Monitor progress towards transition and completion by making frequent contact and developing rapport with each student on caseload.     
  • Meet with participants on a regular basis; problem-solve and make appropriate referrals; serve as a liaison and advocate for students; track and document participant contact, engagement, and outcomes 
  • Actively engage in Voc Rehab activities, recruitment, and trainings both internally and through Department of Human Services (DHS) (), Vocational Rehabilitation, and other community-based organizations. Receive, screen, and process referrals from partner agencies, and make referrals to those agencies. 
  • Assist participants in accessing concrete support such as: Accommodation services, SNAP, STEP, childcare, housing, and transportation.  
  • Support Voc Rehab outreach efforts through the college service district, with an emphasis on rural areas and outreach locations. 
  • Participate in the annual planning process and evaluation of program services. 
  • Maintain relationships with Voc Rehab Counselors and other providers in the district; attend regular community partner meetings; coordinate with Voc Rehab and internal and external community partners to provide services. 
  • Attend project staff meetings and engage in the planning and evaluation of coaching/support strategies and other activities related to Voc Rehab. 
  • Collaboration with Financial Aid; Recruitment & Retention  Navigators; Enrollment Services; Accommodations Services; Student Welcome Center; and other student service team members to facilitate enrollment and retention of students requiring additional support. 
  • Coordinate participant engagement in various programs, activities, and services designed to prepare them for re-entry to the workforce. 
  • Collaborate with Voc Rehab branch office and other local partners regarding local implementation of ICAP.
  • Adapt existing pathway(s) and/or develop new pathways(s) to prepare eligible participants to obtain employment, gain promotion at current employment, and/or reduce reliance on public assistance funds. 
  • Collect participant data and enter into databases for local, state, and federal reporting.  Maintain records, generate reports, enter data, provide clerical support or Voc Rehab and participate in trainings, meetings, and conference calls. 
  • Document and report on grant outcomes. 
  • Develop knowledge of current job market to identify workforce needs in accordance with Career Pathways and Pathways to Opportunity programs to assist Voc Rehab participants with job search activities and refer as needed to college staff and agency partners for internships and job placement assistance. 
  • Provide academic, career, and financial aid coaching to students in GED, ESOL, Career Technical, and/or Career Pathways programs regarding college programs, financial aid, admissions, registration, student success resources, community resources and services, and strategies for success. 
  • Deliver presentations about program services, qualifications, and expectations to prospective students, community organizations, as well as internal and external partners. 
  • Participate in the Pathway to Opportunity community of practice with other Oregon community colleges. 
  • Maintains sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Other Aspects of this Position

  • This is a grant funded position; continuation is dependent on special revenue.
  • This position is required to travel to BMCC locations as needed to administer and promote Voc Rehab Services; meet with program partners and travel to meetings and trainings as needed; valid drivers’ license required.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate degree from an accredited institution with work in sociology, human services, social work, or related field. May substitute one (1) year of college level coursework with two (2) years of directly related work experience. 
  • Two (2) years’ experience in case management, crisis intervention, employment services, recruitment, training programs, social work or related experience.

Preferred Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in sociology, human services, social work, or related field. 
  • Student services experience in the areas of advising, testing, financial aid, or otherwise. 
  • Experience in an educational setting. 
  • Experience working on grant-funded programs in higher education. 
  • Experience working in the field of accessibility services. 
  • Bilingual, English/Spanish.
