Position Summary:
The Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Education (ED) Instructor/Coordinator manages both the ECE and ED programs in parallel. This position is responsible for instructional services for both programs, which includes placement of students in appropriate coursework, as well as overseeing the development and implementation of courses to fulfill student’s academic goals and degree needs. This position may also require a teaching load that does not exceed 50% of the time. The position is subject to the approved faculty calendar, but additional work during summers will be possible. This position will actively recruit and advise, as well as develop and maintain relationships with regional service providers/partners to provide ongoing professional development for both an incumbent workforce and traditional degree seeking students.
Leadership in outreach and collaboration with state and regional stakeholders is a key responsibility to ensure programming is inclusive, relevant and purposeful. This position will also seek out and manage grants as necessary for recruitment events and other learning opportunities, requiring ongoing knowledge of the landscape associated with this funding source. The Early Childhood Education and Education Instructor/Coordinator leads and is guided by principles that emphasize educational programs and student success, especially in learning and continuous improvement, within the guidelines and philosophy in the BMCC mission, Vision and Strategic Plan.
Essential Functions
- Support the philosophy, objectives, and mission of Blue Mountain Community College (BMCC), the ECE and Education programs.
- Follow the highest ethical and professional standards of the teaching profession and promote the best interests of the College. Perform all functions and activities within the guidelines and philosophy set forth in the BMCC Vision and Strategic Plan.
- Design, review, assess, and improve curriculum and instructional programs based on learning and skills-based outcomes.
- Provides instruction within the Early Childhood and Education programs as necessary. The position will support traditional, distance education, and hybrid modes of delivery as appropriate.
- Lead and collaborate with faculty and staff of the Early Childhood and Education programs, including scheduling, academic program review, performance outcomes and strategic planning.
- Assess student learning, foster learning in and out of the classroom, and support teaching practices which cultivate learning for students.
- Advise and mentor students in the Early Childhood Education (ECE) and Education (ED) programs.
- Integrate interdisciplinary and global perspectives in course methodology.
- Develop and maintain professional relationships with community and state stakeholders.
- Produces accurate and timely term schedules, catalog information and coordinate curriculum with ECE and ED faculty.
- Work with faculty to facilitate timely completion of administrative tasks such as reporting non-attendance, submitting grades, identifying course materials, submitting required documents, and other similar administrative tasks.
- Work with the Office of Instruction to prepare and monitor department budgets, as well as identify potential grants and funding sources.
- Maintain hours of work on campus. Provide regularly scheduled and posted office hours for student advisement and course related consultation.
- Participate in College-wide plans and activities to improve student retention.
- Participate in departmental meetings, faculty meetings, and other teams, committees or planning activities as are scheduled to promote the educational goals of students and the college.
- Represent the College in the community and provide community service to benefit the program/discipline and the College.
- Collaborate with Student Services in recruitment efforts and participate in external recruitment activities.
- Maintain an annual Professional Development Plan in cooperation with the direct supervisor.
- Support contracted training requested from business and industry.
- Represent BMCC in its role as a professional development provider in the Regional Early Learning Hub.
- Liaises with business and industry to assist students in finding proper employment upon completion of programs.
- Maintains sensitivity, understanding, and respect for a diverse academic environment, inclusive of students, faculty and staff of varying social, economic, cultural, ideological and ethnic backgrounds.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Other Aspects of this Position
- Ability to perform job functions independently and with limited logistical support.
- Ability to travel to other locations to instruct as needed to meet with education partners; or to attend meetings/conferences; valid driver’s license required.

- Master’s degree with 20 (quarter credits) in education
- Demonstrated knowledge of Early Learning literacy through third grade
- Demonstrated expertise in student and classroom management.
- Three (3) years of Community College Teaching or administrative experience.
- Five (5) years’ experience at the elementary and/or early child education level.
