Primary Purpose
The ABS Instructional Assistant is responsible to assist the primary course instructor in the education of students in ABS classes.

Essenatial Duties and Responsibilities
Assist during ABS program courses under the direction of the primary instructor, answering student questions, and providing instruction,
Perform other essential functions as assigned that support the overall objective of the position.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Individuals must possess these knowledge, skills and abilities or be able to explain and demonstrate that the individual can perform the duties and responsibilities of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities. The individual is expected to follow College work rules and policies.

 
  • Knowledge of teaching and instruction of various audiences and group dynamics.
  • Visual ability, corrected, to enable assistant to observe, direct, and supervise students in classroom situations.
  • Familiarity with and ability to operate or oversee the operation of audio-visual equipment, including overhead projectors, film, sound systems, video, television, interactive video and audio equipment including computer-controlled mixed media presentations.
  • Ability to operate or oversee the operation of computers and other written materials.
  • Ability to orally communicate effectively with others, using the English language, with or without the use of an interpreter.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in writing, using the English language, with or without the use of auxiliary aids or services. Familiarity with and ability to remain in communication with the ABS Director and program staff and faculty on a regular basis.
  • Ability to review, understand and apply concepts presented in training programs, conferences, and/or professional literature.
  • Ability to work with ABS Director, faculty, Instructional Dean and other COCC staff at all levels.
  • Willingness to travel and/or teach at various hours and locations, as required.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with and contribute to a diverse workplace through ideas or experience.

Ergonomic Requirements
Regular office hours are established between 8 am – 5 pm during the workweek. A flexible work schedule, including nights and weekends, may be necessary due to the nature of the responsibilities.
Incumbent must be able to function effectively indoors in an office environment engaged in work of primarily a sedentary nature. Requires the ability to work at a workstation for extended periods. Work is typically performed standing. Requires to write, read written materials and computer screens, and ability to use telephonic conversations. Must be able to safely lift 50 pounds. All individuals are required to perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.

Education:
    • Bachelors Degree

  • Teaching experience
