Summary of Position

Under supervision of the staff researcher, assist with research in biogeochemistry, performing moderately complex technical laboratory and field operations for long term biogeochemical monitoring of research projects with the methods and the technology of the UNH Water Quality Analysis Lab and United States Geological Survey. Duties include: gathering data from aquatic sensors and perform data processing and analysis; testing and calibrating a variety of field sensors; collect, process, and analyze water samples; test and calibrate lab instrumentation, plot and gather information from field notes and other sources; perform a variety of analyses of biogeochemical data; maintain field test stations and equipment and assist in resolving related operations/logistical problems as required. This full time grant funded position is based in Durham, NH.

Other minimum qualifications

1. Bachelor’s degree in biogeochemisty, freshwater ecology, or other scientific field with coursework related to the technical work performed.
2. Working knowledge of data processing equipment and techniques.
3. Computer skills including Microsoft Excel, R, and sensor software platforms.
4. Sufficient physical ability and manual dexterity to perform duties of position.
5. Must be able to wear and use personal protective equipment, as necessary.

Additional Preferred Qualifications

1. Working knowledge of technical methods & procedures of ecological/water quality instrumentation and sensors.
2. Research experience in biogeochemistry or freshwater ecology.
3. Master’s degree in biogeochemisty, freshwater ecology, or other scientific field with coursework related to the technical work performed.
