The North Carolina Institute for Climate Studies (NCICS) in Asheville, NC is seeking a student intern to work remotely with the Institute and NOAA NCEI scientists on current projects.
Climate assessments summarize the science and impacts of climate change and are instrumental in communicating environmental information to a wide variety of audiences. This internship will involve the processing, interpretation, and communication of climate data in support of NOAA’s State Climate Summaries, the USGCRP Indicators Platform, and other assessment products.
This project will include elements such as:

This project will include elements such as:
- Identifying datasets appropriate for the development of climate indicators;
- Performing research on climate extremes, climate adaptation, and other climate-related topics;
- Generating figures and infographics to convey relevant climate information;
- Documenting metadata for scientific figures and datasets following current best practices;
- Contributing to written climate communications, including descriptive text and captions related to scientific figures.

10-20 hrs/wkMinimum Experience/Education
High school diploma or equivalent, and college coursework pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree in environmental science, meteorology, atmospheric science, English, journalism, communications, or related field with a minimum GPA of 3.2.

Preferred Years Experience, Skills, Training, Education
Currently enrolled in a post-secondary academic program and actively pursuing a degree in environmental science, meteorology, atmospheric science, English, journalism, communications, or related field, with preference given to those with a GPA of 3.5 or higher.
