This is a part-time, temporary position not eligible for benefits.

 

Work Schedule

Flexible hours during the week between Monday - Thursday: 8:00 am - 2:00 p.m. OR 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Fridays: 10:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m. OR 12:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m.

Schedule is flexible based upon the availability of the student; their class schedule and the department need.

Student may be scheduled up to 20 hours each week.

Job Summary

Scottsdale Community College is hiring a Federal Work Study (FWS) - America Reads Tutor.

Must be a Scottsdale Community College student registered for 6 or more credit hours and received financial aid eligibility

The position of America Reads Student Worker in the Office of Student Experience and Leadership (SEL) will support campus-wide family literacy projects and service-learning events. The America Reads Student Worker will:

  • Participate in family literacy activities and service-learning events to help parents and caregivers in the community improve their literacy skills.
  • Provide assistance to SEL staff for family and student literacy engagement, including virtual and in-person events and projects.
  • Provide social media campaign ideas and strategies for virtual and in-person family literacy and engagement events, and other projects as needed to SEL staff.

To best serve the students, department, and college, this position requires a physical presence on campus.

In order to qualify for a Federal Work-Study (FWS) job, a FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) must be on file for the current award year and have eligible financial needs based on the college requirements. Please contact the Office of Financial Aid  for more information prior to applying to a Federal Work-Study job.

  • FWS is a need-based, federally funded program.
  • FWS requires the completion of a Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA), and confirmation of federal work-study eligibility as determined by the financial aid office.
  • FWS does not directly pay for tuition, and funds are only available to eligible students attending a minimum of six (6) degree applicable hours in a federal student aid eligible program.
  • The FWS award amount is based on your FAFSA results and college funding availability, which will determine the number of hours available to work while supporting the students academic goals.

Minimum Qualifications

Must be a Scottsdale Community College student registered for 6 or more credit hours and received financial aid eligibility.

  • Computer skills such as Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Suite, Internet searching and email
  • Knowledge of standard office practices, procedures, and equipment
  • Ability to learn and communicate general information regarding activities of assigned area
  • Ability to complete alpha/numerical filing
  • Effective at prioritizing tasks and ensuring all details are addressed in a timely manner
  • Ability to respond courteously to callers and visitors
  • Ability to establish cooperative working relationships
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality
  • Ability to perform basic research
  • Ability to convey detailed information clearly and effectively
