Position Summary
The Adjunct is responsible for the coordination, planning, preparation, presentation, and evaluation of classroom instruction and related activities. The Adjunct is responsible for performing assigned duties during the day, evening, or weekend on any Bishop State Community College campus as assigned. At a minimum, the related activities include instruction, instructional counseling, academic advising, serving on various committees, participating in local, state, regional, and national professional activities and organizations. An Adjunct performs all other duties as directed by the Division Chair, Dean of Career and Technical Education, or the President or designee.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Demonstrated expertise in the subject area is required.
Documented expertise in the use of current educational technologies in the classroom including word processing, spreadsheet, database, and/or presentation software is required.
Documented successful experience teaching and developing web-based courses is preferred.
To monitor and maintain correct safety, sanitation, and professionalism in the kitchen-lab environment;
To coordinate, plan, organize, and instruct courses in the day, evening, or on weekends as assigned;
To keep active at a high level of expertise in the subjects taught through on-going professional development;
To recommend textbooks and other instructional materials including classroom and laboratory equipment to Division Chairs;
To teach all classes according to an approved course syllabus;
To keep students informed and updated concerning course content, evaluation procedures and attendance requirements;
To keep students informed about their progress through the prompt grading of papers and other work;
To provide students with a mid-term progress report;
To maintain accurate and complete scholastic records, including attendance records;
To submit attendance verification, mid-term grades, final grades, and other documentation when appropriate;
To develop an appropriate course syllabus for each course taught
To ensure that assigned classes are held as scheduled;
To make suggestions to the faculty concerning the improvement of the curriculum in keeping with the objectives of the college;
To participate in program and curriculum review and development and student learning outcomes initiatives;
To make use of available college online resources through the creation and maintenance of syllabi, lesson plans, assignments, and gradebook in the LMS
To plan each unit or lesson such that the class meetings fully utilize the scheduled time with relevant learning and activities;
To organize each course taught into an effective instrument of learning;
To study and utilize students' leaning styles in each class in order to facilitate the best teaching and learning situations;
To incorporate instructional technologies in instructional delivery;
To keep informed of current trends and new approaches to instruction via professional development activities;
To refer students to advisors, counselors, and tutors as needed;
To submit required reports to the appropriate college personnel;
To attend division meetings, college assemblies, and other meetings as called by the President, Dean of Career and Technical Education or Division Chair;
To become thoroughly familiar with all college policies and procedures and comply with all college policies and procedures;
To convey college-related information to students in a timely manner as requested by college officials.

Qualifications
Associates Degree or equivalent from a regionally accredited institution.
Documented substantial employment in the hospitality industry and/or hospitality education.
ServSafe Manager certification, or must be completed within 6 months of employment.
Teaching experience.
