Postdoctoral scholars in ion channel diseases

The Mu lab focuses on proteostasis maintenance of membrane proteins in the central nervous system. Membrane protein folding and misfolding is an emerging field in the medical science field. We use a combination of neuroscience, cell biology, and electrophysiology approaches to study how the proteostasis network regulates the folding, degradation, assembly, trafficking and function of neuroreceptors both in vitro and in vivo. Another research focus of the lab is the development of therapeutics that correct the misfolding of pathogenic ion channels, as a therapeutic strategy for the treatment of such protein conformational diseases, including neurological and neurodegenerative diseases.
The successful applicant will participate in projects on elucidating molecular basis of ion channel protein quality control in the endoplasmic reticulum. The qualified candidate will also be part of our drug discovery project for neurological diseases. The posted positions will be supported by a NIH NINDS R01 grant. Competitive salary will be provided and commensurate with experience.
The applicant must have a PhD and/or MD degree in neuroscience, cell biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, biophysics, pharmacology, or related field. The position is in the field of electrophysiology, cell biology, biophysics, or neuroscience. Previous experience with mouse genetic models or neuroreceptors-related research is highly desired, but not required.
