Position Summary
The Student – Welding Lab Aide is responsible for providing assistance to the Welding Department by maintaining and preparing class and lab materials.
Note: Cochise College requires a post offer, pre-employment background screening of all employees.
This position is open until filled with applications reviewed upon receipt, and may close at any time.
Duties and Responsibilities
Duties and Responsibilities: Within the scope of college policies and procedures, this position:
Performs layout and cutting of class practice materials
Fabricates and welds metal brackets, fixtures, and assorted tooling following dimensioned sketches and prints
Maintains welding lab machinery and equipment
Cleans and maintains shop area
Performs other duties as assigned by supervisor

Education and Experience; Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Education and Experience Requirements:
Enrollment at Cochise College with a minimum of 6 credits per semester and 3 credits in the summer
Possess and maintain a 2.0 G.P.A or higher
Completion of one year welding classes
Students attending Cochise College on an F-1 Visa require full-time enrollment with a minimum of 12 credits per semester and six credits in the summer
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
Ability to multi-task and organize, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion with an attention to detail
Ability to work independently while contributing to team environment
Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students and the public
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
Work Environment: Work is primarily performed under general supervision and may require working in a variety of climatic conditions.
Physical Requirements: Essential functions of this position require: lifting, manual dexterity, ability to communicate.
Medium work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body; involves sitting only occasionally, walking and standing are required regularly, incumbents may be required to kneel, crouch/squat, crawl, climb, stoop, turn/twist, balance, reach, or handle
Mental Application: Utilizes memory for details, verbal instructions, emotional stability, critical thinking, adaptability and creative problem solving skills are important
