PT- Ceramics Studio Technician
Job Description
Summary of Function:
In-person monitoring and management of Ceramics Lab under direct supervision of Ceramics Faculty
Typical Duties:
- Serves Students. Load and unload kilns as needed.
- Assists in general ceramic lab maintenance: mix glazes, recycle clay, inventory.
- Monitors open studio hours.
- Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties
as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- Associate degree in an Art field AND one year of experience working in a ceramic lab AND experience
working with students in a ceramic lab environment - OR
- High School Diploma or equivalent AND two years of experience working in a ceramic lab AND one year
of experience working with students in a ceramic lab environment
Classification:
- Non-Exempt
Position Type & Work Schedule:
- Part-time
- Up to 19 hours per week
- Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
- Working knowledge of Ceramics equipment: wheels, kilns, slab roller, and extruder
- Skill in managing one’s own time
- Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
- Ability to use math percentages and scales for measuring glaze materials
- Ability to handle equipment and materials safely, following all guidelines and protocols
- Ability to contribute to a collaborative team environment
- Ability to provide assistance for diverse populations in a professional and supportive manner
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing, and in a public setting, and to relate to others in a
professional manner - Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
- Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using
independent judgment and decision-making processes - Ability to establish and maintain effective working and collaborative relationships with other department
staff, faculty, students and the public
Work Environment:
- Inside classroom environment with normal noise and lighting levels
- Outdoor classroom/lab environment in the kiln yard
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods sitting
- Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking
- May lift, carry, push, and/or pull, at times a minimum of 50 pounds
- May lift, carry, push, and/or pull, equipment, tools, shelving, or materials
- Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or twist
