Job Description

Summary of Function: 
In-person monitoring and management of Ceramics Lab under direct supervision of Ceramics Faculty

Typical Duties: 

  • Serves Students. Load and unload kilns as needed.
  • Assists in general ceramic lab maintenance: mix glazes, recycle clay, inventory.
  • Monitors open studio hours.
  • Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties
    as assigned.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Associate degree in an Art field AND one year of experience working in a ceramic lab AND experience
    working with students in a ceramic lab environment
  • OR
  • High School Diploma or equivalent AND two years of experience working in a ceramic lab AND one year
    of experience working with students in a ceramic lab environment

Classification:

  • Non-Exempt

Position Type & Work Schedule:

  • Part-time
  • Up to 19 hours per week
  • Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
  • Working knowledge of Ceramics equipment: wheels, kilns, slab roller, and extruder
  • Skill in managing one’s own time
  • Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
  • Ability to use math percentages and scales for measuring glaze materials
  • Ability to handle equipment and materials safely, following all guidelines and protocols
  • Ability to contribute to a collaborative team environment
  • Ability to provide assistance for diverse populations in a professional and supportive manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing, and in a public setting, and to relate to others in a
    professional manner
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using
    independent judgment and decision-making processes
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working and collaborative relationships with other department
    staff, faculty, students and the public

Work Environment:

  • Inside classroom environment with normal noise and lighting levels
  • Outdoor classroom/lab environment in the kiln yard

Physical Demands:

  • Prolonged periods sitting
  • Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking
  • May lift, carry, push, and/or pull, at times a minimum of 50 pounds
  • May lift, carry, push, and/or pull, equipment, tools, shelving, or materials 
  • Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and/or twist
