Position Summary
The Academic Advisor is responsible for assisting applicants, prospective students, and current students with academic and career technical course planning. The Academic Advisor evaluates students’ progress toward degree requirement and provides guidance on course registration and scheduling. The Academic Advisor makes referrals to available College resources such as campus policies, procedures, and academic requirements while maintaining thorough and up to date files on student appointments and correspondence.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
At a minimum, the essential functions of this position shall include:
Academic Advisor
- Schedules and meets with advisees regularly.
- Integrates best practices to support increased retention and graduation rates, including credit momentum and connection to campus resources and opportunities.
- Assists students with problem solving/college related issues such as encumbrances, tuition issues, computer accounts, registration, etc.
- Collaborates and communicates with prospective students to provide a seamless transition into academic and/or technical programs.
- Conducts program information sessions on multiple campuses. Creates group advising modules that teach an in-depth understanding of curricular options and course planning.
- Works with the Director of Student Development to analyze recruitment data and predict enrollment patterns. Makes adjustments and recommendations accordingly.
- Works with students to prevent/resolve academic transfer credit issues.
- Strengthens relationships with strategic college partners such as admissions, student services, financial aid, and transfer institutions.
- Performs administrative assistant duties to include but not limited to coordinating content and assembly of information/application packets, maintenance of student files, reinstatement requests, and other areas as assigned by the Director of Student Development.
- Works with Director of Student Development to prepare reports as needed.
- Advising staff is expected to have a photo and biography on the College website, and engage in TEAMS advising, social media, videos and online tutorials; thus, a clean, well-kept professional appearance/ dress code is expected.
- Communicates with appropriate individuals and provides information, as assigned.
Head Baseball Coach
- Coordinates and coaches the day-to-day operations of the athletic program, including but not limited to: Recruiting and signing athletes to represent Coastal Alabama Community College; Scheduling of and attending practices and games in consideration or other campus and athletic department events, including communicating with college campus about upcoming games, schedules, and events; Securing game officials; Recruiting; purchasing and maintaining equipment, uniforms and supplies; completing necessary paperwork; Being present at required meetings and college functions; Coaching weight training, conditioning, and practice; Scheduling transportation and travel arrangements for all ballgames and recruiting trips; Maintaining facilities for the athletic program; Working with student-athletes and faculty in registration, scheduling classes, and monitoring academic progress; and Assisting with the academic advising of student-athletes with their class schedules.??
- Uses coaching and motivational skills to assemble individuals into a team.?Serves as a positive role model for students, coaching staff, and the community.?
- Works within approved budgets and prepare necessary reports required by the athletic department, the business office, the Alabama Community College Conference and the NJCAA.??
- Maintains appropriate record keeping for athletic program including, but not limited to: Maintains and provides up-to-date statistical reports to ACCC and NJCAA; Tracks athlete graduation, transfer, and scholarship statistics; Maintains an up-to-date files of student-athletes’ records to assist with eligibility; Determines student eligibility requirements as required by the NJCAA; Monitors and communicates with faculty and staff about athletes’ class attendance, grades and personal conduct; Meets Coastal Alabama Community College, ACCC, and NJCAA deadlines for eligibility, stats, etc.??
- Supervises and provides duties for assistant coaches and team managers.?Ensures all volunteer coaches on staff are approved with proper background checks.??
- Maintains appropriate inventory of athletic equipment and supplies.??
- Maintains appropriate office and work schedule.??
- Maintains effective verbal/written communications skills with the athletic department, admissions, Coastal Alabama Community College administration, parents, student-athletes, and recruiters (letters, telephone calls, personal appointments).?Establishes a good working relationship with community leaders and fellow coaches.??
- Applies discipline in a fair and consistent manner according to policy.??
- Provides for the safety, security, inventory control, and use of assigned equipment and other fixed assets.??
- Establishes meaningful and effective working relationships with other divisions, departments, administrators, faculty and staff as necessary to enhance operational efficiency and effective community coordination, and teamwork.??
- Follows medical procedures for injured athletes. Ensures athlete injuries to players are reported for insurance purposes and that appropriate medical treatment is received if needed.??
- Reviews and assists in the revision of the student athlete policies and procedures.?

Qualifications
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field from a regionally accredited institution.
- Five years of related experience.
- Five (5) years of related coaching experience at the high school or college level.
- Experience in the use of current educational technologies in the workplace including word processing, spreadsheet, database, presentation software (e.g., Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Banner, Canvas, and Outlook).
- Excellent communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Experience working with diverse populations.
- Demonstrated skill with social media and online communication tools.
- Strong organizational and time-management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited institution.
- Experience using Ellucian Banner ERP system.
- Experience using TargetX customer relationship management software.
- Community College experience.
- College head coaching experience.
- Ability to organize, manage confidential information, and oversee special projects through to completion.
- An understanding of and commitment to the philosophy and mission of a comprehensive community college.
- Commitment to all students and faculty including those of diverse cultures and ethnic backgrounds.
- An understanding of the broad range of students' abilities in an open admissions college and the ability to communicate to the community college student population.

Retirement
The TRS was established in 1939 to provide benefits to qualified persons employed by state-supported educational institutions. Responsibility for the management and administration of the TRS is vested in its Board of Control. The Boards of Control elect the Secretary-Treasurer who serves as the Chief Executive Officer of the RSA and is responsible for the day-to-day management of the RSA. The TRS is a defined benefit plan qualified under Section 401(a) of the Internal Revenue Code. All regular full-time and part-time employees (non-temporary and non- student) who work at least 20 hours per week are required to participate in The Teachers' Retirement System of Alabama.
