Programmer Analyst, Temporary
Job Description
The Carey Business School's Office of Institutional Data and Analytics (OIDA) is seeking a technical and highly detailed individual for the position of Programmer Analyst, Temporary. Under the general guidance of the Institutional Research and Analytics Manager, this position serves as a critical interface between OIDA and the Office of Software and Reporting Services. The person in this role will understand and manage technology integration and data management. They will play a critical role in ongoing efforts to build and maintain OIDA's internal data warehouse and multiple interactive dashboards, including data preparation and reporting solutions. Additionally, the role provides ongoing technical support for OIDA, offering a unique opportunity for ingenuity in a dynamic and supportive team environment.
The Programmer Analyst will be the subject matter technology expert for OIDA. The incumbent will primarily be responsible for developing, coordinating, and managing the daily activities of the OIDA database applications development operation, extracting data from the Student Information System to gather and compile large datasets, developing internal databases, automating reports, and preparing dashboards for reporting. The person in this role will collaborate in a dynamic team environment with the data management and technical support administrator, senior institutional research analysts, and manager.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Data Extraction, Transformation Reporting & Data Visualization (60%)
- Contributes to OIDA’s internal ETL (Extract Transform Load) design, evaluation, selection, implementation, and support of database solutions. Works closely with the OIDA team on ETL development and BI reporting. Troubleshoots problems regarding the databases and applications and provides technical support. Identifies and analyzes queries and stored procedures for optimization.
- Develop/change data input, files/database structures, data transformation, algorithms, and data output using appropriate computer language/tools to provide technical solutions for moderately complex application development tasks.
- Ensures that the use of business intelligence applications enhances business decision-making capabilities.
- Creates, upgrades, and maintains dashboards of data based on leadership needs and ongoing/common data requests for the school.
- Document code and associated processes by adhering to development methodologies, adding code comments and appropriate documentation to various knowledge-based system(s) to simplify code maintenance and improve support.
- Analyze complex reporting needs and develop complex reports.
Testing, Documentation & Training (40%)
- Create and document moderately complex test scenarios using the appropriate testing tools to validate and verify application functionality.
- Test all changes using the appropriate moderately complex test scenarios to ensure that all delivered solutions work as expected and errors are handled meaningfully.
- Author and maintain documentation by writing audience-appropriate materials to serve as technical and end-user references.
- Assist data management and technical support administrator with creating easy-to-follow training guides to support non-analytical client utilization.
- Assist data management and technical support administrator with conducting and facilitating training.
- Other duties as assigned.
Special Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Proven ability to write and analyze SQL Query.
- Proven ability in database development, management, and access software, including Microsoft SQL Server and other SQL tools.
- Proven abilities implementing and customizing/extending a vendor-provided solution.
- Proven ability using SSRS and/or other reporting tools.
- Proven ability to develop dashboards with Power BI, Tableau, or similar tools.
- Ability using a variety of data manipulation tools.
- Ability to adapt to changes in technology and environment quickly and easily. Must be able to serve as a change agent in promoting change among colleagues within the organization and its user communities.
- Excellent verbal/written communication skills and ability to interact effectively with functional and technical communities.
- Skilled in managing multiple projects and working independently.

Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree.
- One-year related experience.
- Additional related experience may substitute for required education, to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
Preferred Qualifications
- Two years' related experience.
- Extensive Experience using SQL programming and related databases.
- Experience using Power BI.
- Experience in computer science, information systems, engineering, or related fields.
- Experience extracting and merging data from multiple platforms; experience with creating a Data Warehouse, including the steps involved in the “lifecycle” of its development.
- Experience supporting clients in complex systems with multiple project partners.

Starting Salary Range: $27.58 - $48.41 HRLY ($19,760 targeted; Commensurate with experience)
