Additional Job Posting Information:

This postdoctoral position is to study protein posttranslational modification in human breast cancer with a NIH-NCI funded lab in the Department of Biology & Biochemistry at the University of Houston. Specifically, the Bawa-Khalfe team is focused on the development of therapeutic strategies to restore aberrant ubiquitin and ubiquitin-like SUMO modification systems using multiple in vivo and ex vivo breast models. The postdoctoral fellow should have experience on protein biochemistry, pharmacology, medium/high-throughput drug screens, transcriptome analysis, and breast cancer biology. Ideally, the individual should have working knowledge of techniques/methods to detect ubiquitin/SUMO modifications on a single protein substrate and proteome screens.

Postdoctoral scholars work independently with variable hours and days required to complete laboratory experiments/tasks. Prior to start, the postdoctoral fellow will work with Dr. Bawa-Khalfe to initiate an Individual Development Plan (IDP); the IDP will be used to align goals, define expectations, and evaluate the progress of the scholar.

Additional Duties:

Actively contribute to ongoing and future research with a diverse team that includes other scientists, collaborating clinicians, postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, undergraduate students, and professional students. Design and perform hypothesis-driven experiments, analyze and interpret data, and accurately chronicle experimental progress. Present findings at closed meetings with the research team and collaborators and at institutional, national, and international meetings. Write and submit postdoctoral grants, research manuscripts, and/or review articles.
