About the Educational Opportunity Center:

The North Central Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) is a federally funded TRIO program that provides educational planning, career counseling, and assistance with admissions and financial aid application completion for low-income and first-generation to college individuals planning post-secondary education.

General Statement of Duties:

Provide information, guidance and assistance with developing and carrying out plans to pursue postsecondary education to North Central Educational Opportunity Center program participants. Responsible for providing academic/career/financial aid advisement, conducting needs assessments, coordinating workshops and educational activities to aid program participants in achieving their goals.

Responsibilities:

  • Conducts outreach activities to make the community aware of NCEOC services;
  • Organizes and participates in special events aimed at increasing access of low-income populations to postsecondary education;
  • Determines individual eligibility and need for service;
  • Assists participants with career exploration and career goal development;
  • Identifies postsecondary programs related to interests and needs of participants;
  • Assists participants in completing admissions and financial aid applications;
  • Conducts follow up with participants to monitor progress;
  • Advocates on participant's behalf with appropriate school and agency offices;
  • Conducts career and academic planning and self-development workshops for participants;
  • Maintains an active case file on each enrolled participant;
  • Maintains accurate case notes and documentation, and submits required paperwork according to specified timelines; and
  • Other duties as assigned by the Director.

Job Requirements:


Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Counseling, Education, or closely related field;
  • Two (2) years experience and/or training involving career counseling, academic advising, international student policies, foreign language interpretation, and personal computer operations; or
  • An equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Two (2) years of relevant experience in a student service role;
  • Solid knowledge of the higher education enrollment process, including familiarity with and knowledge of college admissions, financial aid, FAFSA, and career information and planning processes;
  • Strong communication skills, dynamic presentation skills, and a proven ability to design and facilitate events/presentations/workshops for small and large groups;
  • Professional or personal experience having succeeded in overcoming barriers similar to those confronting the project's population (experience with TRIO programs a plus);
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and as a part of a team;
  • Strong computing skills including working knowledge of Microsoft Office; database and student records management experience and experience using social and mobile applications to promote services/reach constituents is preferred;
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel to off-site locations;
  • Bilingual ability in Spanish

Additional Information:


Salary: $52,686.00 - $89,802.00

**** Actual Salary determined by education, experience, and any applicable grant limitations per the collective bargaining agreement. Applicants should be aware it is unlikely the salary will be at or near the top of the range.
