Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Shop Technician maintains the safe operation of the Woodshop and the Digital Fabrication Lab in support of the School’s Studio Teaching Program, administers the shop safety/certification program, maintains shop equipment to maximize its use and life, and provides instruction in the use of equipment and materials and the craft of model making. The Shop Technician reports to and works closely with the Academic Facilities Coordinator and supervises Graduate Student Assistants.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Architecture and/or degree(s) in design media, fabrication, or related fields.

Experience:
  • Three (3) years of progressive experience in technical operations in a woodshop and/or digital fabrication lab.
  • Experience with woodworking and associated tools (Planer, Jointer, Table saw, Miter Saw, Band Saw, Lathe, Router, Dust Collection).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Literate in CAD and REVIT or a demonstrated ability to learn these software tools
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Masters in Architecture with an emphasis on digital fabrication
  • Supervisory experience
