Experiential and Global Learning
Mendoza’s Office of Experiential and Global Learning creates formative learning experiences in which students apply their academic knowledge to real-world challenges with real-world organizations, put into practice the business skills required to build a purposeful career, and contribute to the flourishing of the local and global communities they are serving. In the past two years, our team has built a suite of twice-yearly, week-long Grow Irish courses, as featured in the Spring 2024 Mendoza Magazine. These courses are central to the College’s strategic vision for attracting top students and forming students with the capacity to make a positive impact in their careers.

Purpose
The Assistant Director of Experiential and Global Learning, Student Program Manager in the Mendoza College of Business is a member of the Experiential and Global Learning Team and is responsible for executing formative, career-relevant learning opportunities for Mendoza graduate programs, principally students in one-year Specialized Masters programs. The Grow Irish page on our Master of Science in Management (MSM) website provides a high-level overview of one program that the Assistant Director will manage. Other programs the Assistant Director will likely work with include the Master of Nonprofit Administration, Master of Science in Business Analytics, and Master of Science in Business Analytics – Sports Analytics concentration. Our Office is in an exciting building phase and the Assistant Director will play a key role in supporting the expanding range of programming.

The Student Program Manager reports to the Director of Experiential and Global Learning and works alongside the Associate Director for Business Development, Associate Director for Program Development, and Assistant Director for Student International Travel and Program Manager. The Student Program Manager holds critical areas of responsibility such as, but not limited to:

  • Planning and implementing all aspects of student programs such as company visits, alumni networking receptions, and cultural events in the Grow Irish suite of courses for Specialized Masters programs.
  • Accompanying students on immersive domestic experiences in mid-October, early December, and early March.
  • Compellingly presenting Grow Irish program details to prospective and current students, setting the tone that our Office expects and delivers excellence in a spirit of service.
  • Collaborating with Academic Directors and key functional staff to elevate experiential learning courses, particularly for Mendoza’s Specialized Masters programs.

Mendoza enrolls upward of 600 graduate students each year and another 600 undergraduate students per class year. As a graduation requirement built into the curriculum for many graduate students, opportunities abound for continued development and expansion of our Grow Irish courses. Additionally, as a top 10 undergraduate business school, Mendoza is poised to make strategic moves to engage our undergraduate students as well. In this dynamic period of development at the College, the Assistant Director may be instrumental in making evolving contributions in areas such as:

  • Assisting in executing one or both of Mendoza MBA’s 7-week “Mod Away” programs in Santiago, Chile and Silicon Valley, California.
  • Exploring options and executing plans for experiential learning with various undergraduate cohorts.
  • Supporting the planning and administration of other emerging experiential learning program offerings.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of 5 years of experience in developing and delivering superior academic programs within higher education or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Demonstrated success in implementing educational programs with excellent planning, communication, networking, and relationship management skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to mentor, manage, and develop high-functioning student teams; build relationships with various internal and external constituencies across units; engage with all program stakeholders; and build consensus.
  • Manage student crises effectively and develop proactive approaches to mitigating such events.
  • Ability to respond quickly to changing business needs and priorities.
  • Team-oriented, proactive, flexible, and mission-centered in nature.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, collaboration, reasoning, and resourcefulness in an environment of constrained resources.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills are essential. Strong public speaking skills are necessary; ability to present strong and persuasive oral and written communications and to effectively work with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Apps, Qualtrics, and Canvas and ability to learn and utilize new technological tools.

  • Master’s Degree (MBA, Higher Education)
  • Foreign language competency
