Essential Job Duties

We are seeking an experienced Dairy Management Specialist to provide independent leadership and support to dairy farmers and industry workers. The ideal candidate will enhance our services, ensuring they adhere to sound dairy science principles, and effectively address the needs of our users. This role involves direct interaction with dairy producers, coop field technicians, and consultants, offering both technical support and educational guidance.

Essential Job Duties:
  • Lead the delivery of support to dairy farmers and industry workers in using herd management practices.
  • Identify and specify potential improvements in practices, ensuring adherence to dairy science principles.
  • Develop and enhance technical and educational documentation applying dairy science principles.
  • Teach proper herd management practices to dairy producers and industry members through various educational formats.
  • Provide support to dairy producers, coop field technicians, and consultants; log all communications in company CRM.
  • Analyze routine and unique situations to determine practical solutions.
  • Explore existing practices and suggest methods for improvement.
  • Conduct background research to inform development and problem-solving.
  • Maintain a knowledge base for effective future responses.
  • Gather information on new practices to assist in the development of new solutions.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver innovative solutions and adapt practices to new scenarios; advise on areas of expertise.
  • Document conditions for future application reference.
  • Manage projects requiring independent research and exercise judgment on actions and decisions.
  • Conduct online and on-farm educational sessions on best practices and features.
  • Periodically represent DRMS at industry trade shows.

Minimum Education and Experience

  • Relevant Master’s degree and minimum of 1 year of experience OR 
  • Relevant Bachelor’s degree and minimum of 3 years of experience OR 
  • An equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Other Required Qualifications

  • Must reside in or be willing to relocate to North Carolina
  • Strong knowledge of dairy science and dairy herd management software
  • Ability to determine potential causes of technological problems in on-farm dairy management software
  • Ability to communicate effectively with dairy farmers to identify and implement technological solutions to management challenges on dairy farms
  • Ability to identify potential solutions that can be addressed by adjustments in software
  • Ability to describe adjustments to software that deploy proper dairy science to software developers
  • Ability to translate dairy science requirements into software technical features
  • Ability to collaborate with software development and QA teams
  • Ability to test the appropriateness of dairy content in new software features
  • Ability to assess requirements and advise management and internal staffers
  • Ability to diagnose problems and identify solutions
  • Ability to teach how to apply software solutions to dairy management problems
  • Ability to provide documentation needed to support other staffers
  • Ability to oversee customer relations
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to periodically travel to provide training or technical support to customers

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two years of progressive experience in providing software support to farmers
  • Two years of on farm experience using dairy herd management software
  • Strong data management perspective
  • Experience as decision maker for teams
  • Strong experience using Microsoft Office
