Job Description

The McDonald Center for Student Well-Being is the health promotion department at the University of Notre Dame and is charged with assessing well-being, as well as implementing population-based health and wellness initiatives for the student population. The McDonald Center was privileged to receive a grant entitled “Planning, Implementation and Evaluation of Programs to Address Substance Abuse Prevention and Mental Health Promotion at Indiana’s Institutions of Higher Education” from the State of Indiana’s Division of Mental Health and Additions. As a result, the McDonald Center is seeking an applicant to manage this grant and provide backbone support for the collaborative work of assessment, design, and implementation of the grant projects. This position will include coordinating and managing the varied aspects of the grant process while following SAMHSA’s Strategic Prevention Framework model, as well as working collaboratively within the McDonald Center and across campus with a variety of stakeholders. During the first year, the emphasis of the work will be on assessment, analysis and co-development of initiatives while during the second year the work will shift more to implementation and evaluation. The successful candidate will need to have strong skills in relationship building, collaborative development, data analysis, and project management, with an ability to bring the crucial lenses of cultural competency and sustainability to everyday work. This is a full-time, year round, limited term and reports directly to the Director of the McDonald Center for Student Well-Being, located within the Health and Wellness Unit in the Division of Student Affairs. The position will require some weekend, evening hours and occasional travel.

Grant Management
  • Maintain meticulous records of all grant related activities and communications
  • Track, document, and report monthly grant activities for both internal and external partners
  • Write monthly and quarterly reports and submit to the State of Indiana, as required by the grant
  • Manage grant expenditures and budget, with oversight of Department Director
  • Attend State meetings, conferences, and trainings, and coordinate and manage site visits as required for grant awardees
  • Build and maintain mentorship relationships with other grant awardees
  • Serve as liaison to grant related contacts, both internal and external to Notre Dame

Assessment, Evaluation, and Data Analysis
  • Design, facilitate, and implement a variety of assessment and evaluation activities to gather both qualitative and quantitative data
  • Conduct benchmarking studies and best practice reviews
  • Design, coordinate, and implement focus groups
  • Coordinate and implement campus-wide well-being surveys, working with internal and external partners as needed
  • Analyze qualitative and quantitative data, both existing data and that collected through the grant process, and identify gaps, trends, and strengths of student well-being on campus
  • Create reports and presentations, tailored to different audiences

Capacity Building, with Emphasis on Community Activation
  • Develop collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders based on shared values
  • Utilize relationships to identify shared community values
  • Participate in relevant committees (e.g. AOD Task Force, Mental Health Strategic Planning Committee)
  • Supervise student employees
  • Support AOD Task Force as needed
  • Identify and facilitate educational training for self and community

Planning and Implementation
  • Utilize assessment activities to identify student well-being needs and gaps to be addressed
  • Co-develop and implement population wide campaigns
  • Serve as project manager for grant related campaigns and initiatives
  • Coordinate and facilitate program tasks and stakeholders

Mentorship
  • Attend or present at regional and national trainings and conferences

This is a one year limited term position. 

Minimum Qualifications

Master’s degree in public health, health promotion, psychology or other related field, or an equivalent combination of a Bachelor’s degree and relevant work experience. 1-2 years experience

  • Strong interpersonal and collaborative skills for engaging the campus community (students, staff and faculty).
  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal) that contribute to successful collaborations with relevant stakeholders.
  • Strong data, assessment, and research skills and a track record of implementing best practices.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities and pay close attention to detail.
  • Strong computer skills: Microsoft Office suite, Google applications, Qualtrics and Canva graphic design software.

  • Ability to deliver compelling and effective presentations for a variety of audiences.
