The North Carolina Community College System (System Office) is a statewide network of 58 public community colleges. The system enrolls over 500,000 students annually. It is the 3rd largest in the nation based on the number of colleges. It also provides data to the North Carolina Learning Object Repository by collecting, contributing, and sharing digital learning resources for use in traditional or distance learning environments. NC Community Colleges System Office has an opening for the Building Coordinator in the Business and Finance Division, Procurement and Auxiliary Services section. The recruitment salary is up to $62,198.

About the position
The primary purpose of the Building Coordinator position is to oversee the day-to-day operation of the building services portion of this work unit's diverse and numerous operations that support the System Office. This includes conducting research, providing information and follow-up recommendations to the Director of Procurement & Auxiliary Services. The coordinator performs administrative duties in directing and coordinating a variety of supportive central office functions for the agency including building maintenance, building renovation, shipping and receiving, mail receipt and distribution, employee parking, employee identification badges, fixed assets, surplus property, care of NCCCS Office President state assigned vehicle, and other duties as assigned.
The person in this position must maintain a working knowledge of current laws, policies and procedures related to postal service, building codes, shipping/receiving, and the disposal of surplus equipment and supplies. The person must also communicate the appropriate policies and procedures orally and in writing to system office staff, contractors, and vendors; have the ability to analyze problems; and make decisions based on the law and current policies and procedures.
The person in this position must be able to read, understand, and communicate Federal and State rules and regulations and apply the information gained in the completion of their daily tasks. The person must be able to perform comprehensive administrative work independently, with minimum supervision. The person must be able to lift at a minimum of 50 pounds and have a valid North Carolina Class C Driver’s License. The person must maintain an effective working relationship with all stakeholders including staff, contractors, and vendors.
The person will serve as backup to the Administrative Services Coordinator and may assist with day-to-day operation of the auxiliary print shop services and provide health and safety coordination for the agency during times of necessity.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits
This position allows for a flexible work schedule but is not eligible to work a remote schedule. This position will work on premises at the NC Community Colleges System Office in downtown Raleigh.

The salary grade for this position is NC09. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

  • Experience in the coordination and implementation of building maintenance, building renovation, shipping and receiving
  • Working knowledge and experience in some of the following: mail receipt and distribution; employee parking; and employee identification badges
  • Must have proficiency with Microsoft Office products (i.e., Word, Excel, and Outlook)
  • Valid NC Driver's License
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
The following Management Preferences are not required, but applicants that possess these skills are preferred:
  • Successfully completed fixed asset training for the fixed assets module in the state’s financial system, NCFS
  • Ability to interpret current general statutes, policies, rules and laws and apply them to daily tasks
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Experience tracking fixed assets and entering information in NCFS
  • Experience coordinating the disposal of surplus property

 

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and four years of related administrative experience;
OR
Equivalent combination of education and experience.
