Job Description:


Eastern Shore Community College is a member of the Virginia Community College System. The College serves the residents of Accomack County and Northampton County as a two-year institution of higher learning. Operating under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Eastern Shore Community College Board, the college is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the two counties and the Eastern Shore Community College Foundation.

Adjunct faculty members are responsible for effectively planning and teaching courses in a classroom environment to students with a variety of academic backgrounds and experiences. All faculty members must be skilled in oral and written communications and must be able to work cooperatively with other staff members.

The intention of this posting is to collect applications for current and future appointments.
 
General Information: Adjunct faculty teaching is limited to a maximum of 8 credit hours in the summer semester, 12 credit hours in the fall semester, and 12 credit hours in the spring semester. These limits are for total number of credit hours taught in the Virginia’s Community Colleges (VCCS). Additional restrictions may apply depending upon other positions occupied within VCCS.

Responsibilities: Eastern Shore Community College augments full-time teaching faculty with qualified part-time instructors to enhance the student learning process. Provide traditional delivery instruction on the Melfa campus of the college. Courses offered in the discipline include courses in General Biology I & II, General Human Anatomy & Physiology I & II, and others.
 
Minimum Qualifications:
Master’s Degree in Biology or Biological Sciences or graduate degree with 18 graduate semester hours in Biology.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Prior teaching experience at the postsecondary level.
  • Candidates should possess sufficient technology skills to work productively in an organization that utilizes significant information and instructional technology resources.
  • Ability and/or experience in teaching online courses.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
