Mountain Gateway Community College (MGCC) is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of 23 community colleges in Virginia. The college is supported by the Commonwealth of Virginia; the counties of Alleghany, Bath, Botetourt (northern portion) and Rockbridge; the cities of Buena Vista, Covington, and Lexington; and the town of Clifton Forge. MGCC provides opportunities for the extension of knowledge, skills and personal enrichment in an environment that maintains high academic standards and respect for each individual. The college strives to keep programs and services financially and geographically accessible for all students. Credit and non-credit courses are offered to meet life-long learning needs. On-site and distance learning options incorporate up-to-date technologies.

The career coach will serve as a one-stop resource in the Rockbridge County High School for middle majority students. The career coach will coordinate career assessments using Wizard, write career plans, and will serve as a resource to guidance counselors and other staff in career counseling. The career coach will assist with college placement testing and will integrate work based learning experiences into the position including employ-ability skills and soft skills training; make connections with business and industry pathways including the promotion of certifications in CTE courses. This is a professional/counselor position working closely with high school and community college stakeholders to help secondary students easily transition to post-secondary education. The career coach will directly report to the Director of Student Services and assist with program management.

Special Assignments

May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.

Proven academic excellence and subject matter knowledge, which may be evidenced by training, experience, and/or a Bachelor’s Degree.

DENTAL AND VISION BENEFITS Dental coverage provides preventative, diagnostic, and restorative care as well as orthodontia services. LIFE INSURANCE Group Life Insurance Plans Upon employment, full-time Classified employees, Teaching Faculty, and Faculty Administrative Professionals are automatically enrolled in a group life insurance policy at no cost to the employee. This plan provides natural death, accidental death, and dismemberment coverage. Coverage is the equivalent of two times the employee’s annual salary for natural death and four times the employee’s annual salary for accidental death. Optional Life Insurance Plans State employees are eligible to apply for optional life insurance coverage to enroll themselves, spouse, and/or eligible children. The employee pays the premiums.

DISABILITY
Long-Term and Short-Term Disability The Virginia Sickness and Disability Plan (VSDP) provides state employees with income security when they cannot work because of a partial or total disability. The program is administered by the REED Group. VSDP benefits cover non-work-related and work-related conditions for eligible classified employees. Eligible faculty employees are provided with short-term disability benefits administered by Unum Life Insurance.

TUITION ASSISTANCE Education Benefit Program MGCC encourages its employees to take the initiative in promoting their professional and scholarly growth. The Education Benefits Program is a discretionary fringe benefit provided by the college. Eligible employees will receive a tuition waiver for up to six (6) credit hours per semester excluding summer.

STATE EMPLOYEE DISCOUNT PROGRAMS DHRM, at its discretion, posts information received from vendors that provide discounts to all state employees. Discounted products and services are provided at no cost to the Commonwealth. Employee Discounts

LEAVE PROGRAMS
Annual and Sick Leave for Classified Employees. Annual leave is based on the years of service credited to the employee for this purpose and the percentage of hours worked in a 40-hour workweek. Classified employees receive 64 hours of sick leave and 32 hours of Family Personal Leave. (*These hours are prorated if a new employee starts after July 1 of the calendar year.)Eligible employees with up to 8 weeks (320 hours) of paid parental leave must use it within 6 months of the birth of an infant or adoptive, foster, or custodial placement of a child under the age of 18.
