Job Summary
For the first half of each semester, the tutor will be embedded within the seven-week course for the CCRI Advantage English cohort to provide help one-on-one and in small groups for students struggling with reading and writing concepts. The embedded tutor provides additional resources to students in real time which allows students to get exposure to the concept of tutoring in a less intimidating manner helping to de-stigmatize “getting help”. After the seven-week Advantage session, the tutor will continue working in the Tutoring and Writing Center in Warwick for drop-in and appointment tutoring.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Engage with and help students during group work and other class activities.
  • Explain lessons and course concepts (provided by the teacher)
  • Act as a role model who can demonstrate good study skills and classroom behavior for students.
  • Show students where to locate information in their textbooks, lab manuals, and online class materials.
  • Provide mini-presentations on study strategies.
  • Work one-on-one with struggling students.
  • Provide a post class review of lecture material by encouraging students to attend tutoring and academic coaching.
  • Attend meetings as part of CCRI Advantage team.

Minimum Requirements
  • Earned Bachelor degree in English or related field. Submission of official college transcript(s).
  • A minimum of one (3) year experience in providing tutoring in higher education, a community organization or high school.
  • Background in tutoring reading and writing (including paragraph writing, sentence skills, the writing process).
