Job Summary/Basic Function:
Support the implementation of accommodation and services for students with disabilities. Work includes assisting with accommodations such as proctored tests, notetaking coordinating, adaptive furniture and equipment, alternate format texts (AFT) remediation; scanning and editing textbooks, students' classroom support, clerical office work, photocopying, proctoring tests, and customer service. Provide office desk coverage including answering phones, scheduling appointments, and providing information to students, faculty, staff, parents, and community members.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

Accommodation Support
  • Proctor tests for accommodated exams/tests
  • Scribe/read for students during testing or lectures
  • Take classroom notes, coordinate notetakers, and organize classroom notes
  • Move and adjust adaptive furniture
  • Tag and edit text in Word and PDF for assistive technology access
  • Assist students during assigned classroom coursework

Clerical Duties
  • Perform routine assignments, including drafting basic correspondence and printing letters, labels, reports, and other materials
  • Scan documents, enter data, and maintain electronic and paper files and records
  • Photocopy and collate files
  • Perform routine checks of office areas to keep them organized
  • Answer and route phone calls, take messages as needed
  • Receive, greet, and refer visitors
  • Schedule appointments, meetings, workshops, and conferences

General DutiesPerform other duties as assigned to support departmental operations and meet the needs of students with disabilities, including providing technical support and collaborating with other departments to ensure effective and efficient operations

Minimum Qualifications:
Education and Experience:(Full-time experience can substitute for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.)
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
  • Experience in customer service or direct client support

Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Demonstrated cultural competency and sensitivity
  • Attention to detail
  • Word processing and data entry skills
  • Ability to maintain both electronic and hardcopy records
  • Comfort working directly with students with disabilities and diverse backgrounds
  • Ability to follow established policies and procedures


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Clerical experience
  • Experience supporting disability services in higher education
  • Knowledge of laws pertaining to students with disabilities


Physical Demands:

  • Ability to read and verify data and prepare materials using provided hardware and software

Work Hours: Work schedule will vary, and depends on students accommodation needs. Position is part-time, maximum of 69 hours per month. Temporary - limited to 1,050 hours or 12 months, whichever comes first.
