Duties and Responsibilities:

1. Strategy and Leadership
  • Develop and implement a strategic plan for e-learning and distance education initiatives in alignment with the college's mission and goals.
  • Provide visionary leadership that fosters innovation and continuous improvement for e-learning and distance education.
  • Advise the Chief Academic Officer, academic Deans, and program managers in matters regarding effective and compliant distance education.
2. SACSCOC Compliance
  • Work with the Department of Institutional Effectiveness to stay current with SACSCOC regulations and ensure that all online programs and courses and those offered via Distance Education comply with accreditation standards.
  • Collaborate with academic Deans and relevant college departments to address compliance issues and implement necessary changes.
3. Quality Assurance
  • Establish and monitor standards for the quality of online and distance education courses, including instructional design, content delivery, and assessment.
  • Conduct regular course evaluations and assessments to ensure ongoing improvement and alignment with best practices.
4. Technology and Infrastructure
  • Oversee the selection, implementation, and maintenance of e-learning technologies and platforms.
  • Ensure that the college's online learning management system (LMS) is user-friendly and current.
5. Faculty Development
  • Provide training and support to faculty members in online course development, instructional design, and best practices for online teaching.
  • Provide training and support to faculty and staff members at the college’s distance education sites (OCIS) to ensure alignment and transparency of programs offered.
  • Encourage faculty engagement in ongoing professional development related to e-learning and distance education.
6. Student Support
  • Collaborate with student services departments and Campus Directors to ensure that comprehensive support services are provided for online and distance education students.
  • Collaborate with the Office of Public Relations and Enrollment Services to ensure clarity for the college’s online and distance education students/prospective students.
  • Monitor and address student feedback and concerns related to online and distance education courses.
7. Data Analysis and Reporting
  • Collaborate with the Department of Institutional Effectiveness to collect and analyze data related to course enrollment, retention, and student outcomes for online and distance education students.
  • Generate reports to inform decision-making and improve online and distance education programs.
8. Communication and Collaboration
  • Foster effective communication and collaboration with academic departments, college administrators, and external partners.
  • Serve as a liaison between the college and other college stakeholders regarding distance education practices, capabilities, and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with the Information Technology Department on student technology fee allocation ensuring cost-effectiveness and resource allocation for program growth.
  • Serve on the Student Technology Fee Committee.
  • Collaborate with Campus Directors to ensure cost-effectiveness and resource allocation for program growth for distance education.

Required Education:

  • Master's degree in education, instructional technology, or a related field
  • Demonstrated experience with e-learning programs, distance education management, and SACSCOC compliance.
  • Knowledge of distance education and e-learning technologies, instructional design principles, and best practices.
  • Strong strategic planning, leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience working in higher education institutions is preferred.
  • Project management skills.
  • Familiarity with data analysis and reporting.
  • Commitment to continuous improvement and professional development:
  • Budget management experience.
