Job Description:

Function of Position:

The Director reports to the Dean of Academic Foundations and is responsible for the development, management, and evaluation of all learning assistance programs and activity. The Director is responsible for developing and coordinating a learning support system to advance student success at the College. The Director's responsibilities include supervision of campus-wide tutoring services, the Course-Based Learning Assistance program, the TRIO - Student Support Services grant, and other areas as determined by future planning.

 

Examples of Duties & Responsibilities:

Primary Functions:

Campus-wide Learning Assistance

  • Oversees campus-wide learning assistance, including tutoring, course-based learning assistance, academic coaching and workshops;
  • Develops and implements a learning support system strategic and assessment plan;
  • Makes decisions based on relevant data;
  • Leads an Academic Support System Advisory Team;
  • Hires, trains, supervises, and evaluates tutors and other staff;
  • Completes all paperwork and requirements for College Reading and Learning Association International Tutor Training Certification;
  • Oversees tutoring-related tracking software;
  • Manages staff in participating in recruitment/admissions activities;
  • Researches current methodology and best practices in academic support services;
  • Coordinates, with admissions and placement testing, a formal placement test preparation process;
  • Serves as a resource for faculty and staff on student academic achievement issues and support; and
  • Assists the Dean with other related duties as assigned that align with the duties outlined in the job description.

 Trio Student Support Services (SSS)

  • Directs, supervises, and assesses services and activities that support and advance grant objectives (grant primary investigator);
  • Recruits, monitors, and evaluates grant staff;
  • Articulates grant objectives to academic and administrative departments within the college;
  • Coordinates with key college personnel, providing advice and information on promising trends and directions in the improvement of learning for low-income, first-generation, and physically/learning challenged student populations;
  • Evaluates activities to make sure they're effective;
  • Administers the grant budget;
  • Monitors the program in compliance with federal standards

Requirements:

Required Qualifications:

  • Earned master's degree in education or another education-related field from a regionally-accredited higher education institution
  • Two years' experience in higher education;
  • Two years' experience as a tutor;
  • Experience in developing and/or coordinating grant-related programs;
  • Experience developing and coordinating services and activities for underserved students;
  • Two years of personnel management and budget management experience;
  • Understands the underlying philosophy of tutoring and Course-Based Learning Assistance;
  • Evidence of technology proficiency, including databases, student tracking systems, and some assistive technology.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Five years' experience in community college at an administrative level;
  • Experience in developing and/or coordinating grant-related programs dealing with at-risk populations (e.g., underserved, single-parents, adult, etc.) students and/or support services;
  • Data-centered decision-maker;
  • College Reading and Learning Association past and/or present membership.
  • Bilingual and able to read, write, and speak Spanish, or other languages, proficiently

 
Additional Information:

Salary: Salary is determined based on experience, internal equity and college budget. This position has a range of $78,000 to $84,600 and is based on these mentioned factors.
