Within SECD, the SAP Security Group (ZPP) seeks a forward-thinking, innovative technical security visionary with exceptional leadership skills for Security (ZPP). The successful candidate should be a true leader who can build teams, champion new technology development initiatives, and implement SECD’s vision for the lab.

 

As an Assistant Group Supervisor, you will....

 

  • Provide leadership to a group of over 60+ security professional staff with responsibility for communicating and working with security professionals and technically oriented scientists and engineers focused on developing and integrating Cyber defense concepts and advanced technologies.
  • Be instrumental in hiring and mentoring highly skilled and diverse talent, as we expect significant growth in our area.  The ideal candidate is a proven leader and subject matter expert who offers technical contributions to projects and leads teams that employ advanced technology development to solve critical problems.
  • Foster a culture of innovation. Maintain knowledge of the state-of-the-art in relevant technical SAP Security fields, generate new ideas, and identify potential new applications about relevant Group tasks and capabilities.
  • Work closely with our Sectors' and Departments' Chief Engineers, Chief Scientists, Program Managers, and other Groups to implement the SECD’s vision, which includes coordination and collaboration to improve efficiency and effectiveness and transition technology to the warfighter. Continually align the group’s focus and tasking with the lab’s vision. Communicate Group goals to staff and translate them into their tasking.
  • Develop and communicate the Group vision and strategy to enable the Sector’s to achieve their respective visions. Interact with sponsors, contractors, and APL staff to establish and maintain working relationships and facilitate communication among all parties. Ensure the effective planning and execution of all tasks within the Group. Review briefings, analyses, and written communication of technical products delivered to sponsors at symposia and technical forums. Work closely with the Program managers to strategically engage existing and new sponsor opportunities.
  • Hire and develop highly competent and diverse staff. Make staffing decisions to maintain existing competencies, ensuring that staff members are well equipped to meet the technical mission needs of programs such as photonics, optical systems, electronic warfare, directed energy, and other identified capability gaps. Work collaboratively across the laboratory to foster multi-mission integration and achieve the SECD’s vision.
  • Inspire and empower the staff to create a culture that embraces technical excellence, innovation, diversity of thought, and inclusion. Actively engage and partner with staff to assess and reinforce strengths and identify areas for their future growth. Establish a development plan to address those areas, identify growth opportunities, and provide mentoring and coaching. Communicate often with staff regarding organizational vision to understand their career objectives and seek to match staff development with project objectives. Coach and mentor, the line managers and ensure continual development of new leaders.
  • Create the vision necessary to ensure the Group has the facilities and analytical tools to execute its mission and train and develop the staff. Support and manage expenditures and formulate resource requirements, including overhead and capital funding. Participate in strategic facility and space planning.
  • Provide supervision and staff planning, including monitoring technical/non-technical work for quality and timeliness, balancing and prioritizing task loading, drafting personnel requisitions, interviewing candidates, and making hiring decisions. Engage with staff and recognize and reward staff accomplishments, including management of salary actions and writing reclassification letters and recognition awards. Serve as an SECD leadership team member and participate in strategic planning and execution. Foster and demonstrate collaboration across the Section to maximize the organization’s impact. Implement Laboratory, Sector, and Branch policies and procedures.

Qualifications

You'll meet our minimum qualifications if you....

  • Possess a BS degree in Business, Cybersecurity, Security, Psychology or other relevant field. 
  • Possess a COMP TIA A+ Certification or obtain one with 1 year on the job
  • Have a minimum of 8 years of professional experience and five years’ worth of experience in SCI and SAP Programs
  • Have prior leadership experience managing professional staff groups of 20 or more.
  • Advanced Management Certification or Training.
  • Have proven effective mentoring skills and ability to build and lead multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Possess a good understanding of the National Industrial Security
  • Have experience in at least one of the following areas: cyber security, vulnerability assessment, Industrial Security, SCI and Special Program Experience, or other identified capability needs.
  • Hold an active Top-Secret level clearance, and are able to obtain a TS/SCI level clearance.  If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship.
  • Possess an understanding of highly classified work in an R&D culture 

 Desired Qualifications:

  • Possess a Master’s Degree or equivalent in a related discipline with ten years of relevant experience
  • Have previous APL experience as a Section Supervisor,
  • Possess a working knowledge of FFRDCs/UARCs and a programmatic perspective of highly classified work in an R&D Culture 
  • Leadership experience in a National Security Environment
  • CDSE Certifications (SFPC,SPSC)
