Job Function
As a Counselor of the Counseling and Academic Advising Department at a premier community college, you’ll be combining your professional experience to provide services to students and persons seeking information about academic and career options. Provide counseling services to enrolled students who have not identified an educational/career goal.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide services to enrolled students and persons seeking information about academic and career options. Provide counseling services to enrolled students who have not identified an educational/career goal.
- Provide career counseling to all undecided, students.
- Provide educational counseling, including Macomb and transfer information, to all undecided, students.
- Provide short-term solution based counseling to students with personal concerns.
- Provide referrals to outside agencies and community resources as needed.
- Develop and conduct workshops/programs designed to promote student success and retention.
- Undertake specific programmatic leadership responsibilities within the department, such as, counselor schedule coordination, and responding to counseling oriented online inquiries from students (Counseling at Macomb).
- Assume a leadership role in providing training for all adjunct counselors.
- Assume a leadership role in development and usage of technology within Counseling and Academic Advising Services.
- Provide counseling services to students on an appointment basis, on a walk-in basis or remote when appropriate.
- Provide counseling support services to students on academic and financial aid probation, and other students who are in programs which require special academic monitoring.
- Act as consultant to departments and divisions in providing services to students and prospective students.
- Participate in college recruitment programs, which may include providing career related presentations to specific groups of prospective students and/or parents.
- Help at-risk students secure special assistance to help them succeed in their academic pursuits.
- Facilitate institutional improvement through participation on college committees. Work collaboratively to achieve departmental, divisional and institutional initiatives.
- Work closely with other team members in the delivery of high quality services.
- Other duties as assigned by the Associate Dean of Counseling and Academic Advising Services.
- Other duties as assigned in compliance with the MCCFO collective bargaining agreement.
Education
A master's degree in Guidance & Counseling. Transcripts must be submitted with your application. Copies are acceptable for use during the screening process. If you are offered a position, official transcripts must be provided before you begin working.
Qualifications
Licensing or Certification: State of Michigan (LPC) required.
