Position Summary
Provides leadership, supervision, and strategic planning and direction for Academic Advising, Career and Transfer Services, and International Services. Must be committed to serving a diverse college community. Actively participates in and contributes to continuous quality improvement.

This role may offer the opportunity for a hybrid (some days onsite in Santa Fe, NM and others from an alternative work location, i.e., home office) work arrangement as determined by the Associate Vice President of Student Affairs
Duties & Responsibilities
  • Leads the college in implementing and maintaining academic advising model to enhance student success and retention.
  • Oversees the development of effective academic advising, educating ne advisors, and coordinating informational meetings and professional development.
  • Prepares and publishes advisement information, overseeing advising for all students, and collaborates with colleagues regarding registration and documenting student interactions, addressing retention issues and managing administrative tasks like budget and other procedural requests.
  • Actively participates in campus committees related to academic standards, admissions, financial aid, etc.
  • Manages student academic advisors, cultivating and maintaining effective relations with campus and community partners.
  • Collaborates with colleagues to develop and implement strategies for new and current student engagement.
  • Maintains effective relationships with college academic partners, collaborating on issues related to curriculum, academic advisement, and policies.
  • May serve as an academic advisor and perform advising duties.
  • Participates in ongoing cross-training in order toto provide recruitment outreach and admission/enrollment assistance as needed.
  • Directs the development, implementation, evaluation, and modification of the college’s general advising and career, transfer, and international services.
  • Creates, implements, and evaluates a plan of activities and programs to ensure high quality advising outcomes.
  • Collaborates to develop and facilitate professional development for faculty related to advising and career services.
  • Develops and coordinates a system of communication to effectively keep advisors, including faculty, updated about matters related to advising, including curriculum changes, policy and procedures, deadlines, etc.
  • Directs Career and Transfer Services and International Advising.
  • Oversee international advising staff and assist as needed with determining admission and enrollment eligibility of international students.
  • Ensure compliance and maintain documents required by the regulating federal agency for international (F-1) students.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with the Primary Designated School Official (PDSO) and other Designated School Officials (DSO).
  • Assist in resolving international student issues and problems, including those related to visa compliance.
  • Makes hiring, termination, and disciplinary recommendations; coordinates schedules of department personnel; completes performance evaluations; processes payroll and leave requests.
  • Manages program budgets; maintains college accounting requirements and processes.
  • Manages, leads, and collaborates with advisors and college staff in the design, development, and implementation of various curricular and program offerings.
  • Works with faculty, deans, and associate deans on improving the advising process and as students transition through their academic program.
  • Establishes priorities for departmental assignments and special projects; monitors progress, and reviews work to ensure timely completion and implementation.
  • Identifies areas for improvement and implements solutions through continuous process improvement strategies.
  • Collaborates with campus partners to identify, develop, and review key performance indicators, standard operating procedures, and process documentation; exhibits an understanding of this position's role in the campus semester plans.
  • Responsible for the administration of departmental technologies, software, and student information system.

  • Develops, implements, and manages assessment practices and prepares customized reports.
  • Maintains and analyzes student data related to advisement services. Prepares reports to inform the development of campus and departmental strategies.
  • Maintains and analyzes student advising data that informs and enhance persistence and completion strategies.
  • Work closely with campus partners to ensure accuracy of data.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Six (6) years advising/student services experience in higher education. Experience to include at least three (3) years’ supervisory experience
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience working as an academic advisor.
  • Experience working with International Students.
  • Experience working with career and transfer services.
  • Experience using a Student Information System (such as Banner)
  • Bilingual (English-Spanish).

Physical Demands:
  • The work is typically performed in an office environment.
  • Work Hours Typically 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. May be required to work after hours and/or weekends.
