Job Description

Mountain Empire Community College is a comprehensive two-year college serving residents of Lee, Scott, Wise, and Dickenson counties, and the City of Norton. MECC is one of twenty-three colleges in the Virginia Community College System and operates under policies established by the State Board for Community Colleges and the Local Advisory Board. The College is financed primarily with state funds, supplemented by contributions from the local jurisdictions.

Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) is the ultimate leadership experience and one of the career and technical student organizations (CTSO) recognized by the US Department of Education. It is a dynamic and effective national student organization that helps youth become leaders and address important personal, family, work, and societal issues through family and consumer sciences (FCS) education. The organization has involved more than ten million youth since its founding in 1945.

The Virginia FCCLA Association serves as a resource for local chapters in middle and high schools across the Commonwealth by providing leadership, FCCLA information and updates, and programming. The state association has two individuals who serve as C-SAs, and are responsible for managing FCCLA initiatives and events in Virginia, in accordance with the Memorandum of Understanding with the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE).

Reporting to the Family and Consumer Sciences and Related Clusters Specialist at the VDOE and to the Virginia FCCLA Board of Directors, the C-SAs will have overall strategic and operational responsibility for FCCLA programs, expansion, and execution of its mission. The C-SAs will maintain deep knowledge of the FCS field, core programs, operations, and the strategic plan. They will pursue leadership opportunities, network with others throughout the nation to share resources, and provide support for FCS teachers who serve as chapter advisers, as well as to the middle and high school students who are members of the organization.
