GENERAL STATEMENT OF RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide instruction to students in Chorus & Basic Musicianship during the fall semester (September 3 - December 18, 2024) Tuesdays & Thursdays 9:30-10:45 AM. This course serves as an introduction to the fundamentals of singing in a group, covering essential skills in reading, pitches, rhythms, and vocal techniques. Students will explore a diverse range of musical styles, cultural traditions, and historical periods, with the semester culminating in a public performance.

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:

  • Develop and deliver engaging curriculum that covers fundamental singing techniques, musical styles, and choral performance practices.
  • Provide instruction in vocal placement, diction, breath technique, and choral blend.
  • Design and assess assignments and activities to reinforce student learning outcomes.
  • Foster a supportive and inclusive learning environment conducive to musical growth and expression.
  • Collaborate with colleagues and departmental leadership to ensure alignment with departmental goals and standards.

Job Requirements:


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
:

  • Master's degree in Music, Vocal Performance, Music Education, or related field.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in vocal instruction, conducting, and choral ensemble direction.
  • Strong knowledge of music theory, sight-reading, and choral repertoire across various styles and periods.
  • Experience teaching a diverse student body, preferably at the community college level.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness fostering an inclusive, equity-focused learning environment.
  • Effective pedagogical, communication, and presentation skills.
  • Skill in using technology to support the teaching, learning, and administrative processes.

COMPENSATION
: Anticipated starting salary - Step I DCE Pay Scale; part-time, non-benefited MCCC Unit position.
