Position Summary/Purpose of Position:

The Department of Computer Science seeks a highly organized and personable professional with exceptional attention to detail to join our business office. The person in this position will provide operational support to the department, including coordinating onboarding for new faculty and staff, serving as the department’s primary point of contact for processing visas to support faculty, staff, and students, processing payroll actions, collecting documentation, and reviewing timesheets for hourly employees, providing event support, and serving as a backup for the payroll coordinator. Additional duties will include coordinating parking, mail and package deliveries, meal set-up, lost and found, and serving as the primary point of contact for the department.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution.

Experience:
A minimum of three (3) years of experience in a related position. Work experience should include payroll and visa processing.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
  • Possess strong attention to details and an ability to execute multiple assignments under specific time constraints while being able to work well under pressure.
  • Self-motivated with a willingness to take initiative.
  • Strong computer skills required including Microsoft Office, especially Excel, and Google suite.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work with a diverse student body, faculty and staff.
  • Dedication to providing excellent service to internal and external customers.

Preferences:

Preferences:
  • Working experience in higher education, specifically at UMD, strongly preferred
  • Working knowledge of university systems such as PHR, Workday and iTerp

Physical Demands

This position is generally sedentary in nature. Able to operate a computer and other office equipment including printer and copy machine. Substantive repetitive movements (motions) on the wrists, hands, and/or fingers. Good visual acuity to perform repetitive tasks, e.g. preparing and analyzing data and numbers, viewing computer terminals, extensive reading. Able to maneuver around the campus to attend meetings, trainings, workshops, seminars, etc. Able to lift and carry small parcels, packages and other items. Ability to walk short distances, and/or drive a vehicle to deliver and pick up materials.
