Job Description


The School of Professional Studies M.S. in Technology Management program is seeking industry professionals to play a vital role in imparting essential financial knowledge and analytical skills to our students, enabling them to navigate the complex relationship between the technology industry and the global economy. These individuals will serve as part-time Lecturers for an in-person course in Accounting and Finance for Technology.

This course is an exploration of the central concepts of corporate finance for those who have basic knowledge of finance and accounting. This case-based course considers project valuation, cost of capital, capital structure, firm valuation, the interplay between financial decisions, strategic consideration, and economic analyses, and the provision and acquisition of funds. These concepts are analyzed in relation to agency problems: market domination, risk profile, and risk resolution; and market efficiency or the lack thereof.

The validity of analytic tools is tested on issues such as highly leveraged transactions, hybrid securities, volatility in initial public offerings, mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, acquisition and control premiums, corporate restructurings, and sustainable and unsustainable market inefficiencies.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in-person class lectures, instructional activities, and classroom discussion.
  • Evaluate student work and grade assignments.
  • Monitor student concerns and inquiries and be the first point of contact for student questions.
  • Hold weekly office hours.
  • Part‐time Lecturers who are new to SPS must complete Canvas training (online learning management system)

Class Days and Times
Class will meet on Monday evenings from 6:00pm to 8:00pm EST on our Morningside Heights campus. The fall semester begins on Tuesday, September 3rd and ends on Monday, December 9th.

Final exam week is from Friday, December 13th to Friday, December 20th.



Qualifications


Columbia University SPS operates under a scholar-practitioner faculty model, which enables students to learn from faculty that have outstanding academic training as well as a record of accomplishment as practitioners in an applied industry setting.

Requirements

  • Graduate degree in Business, Accounting, Finance, Economics, or a technology related field from an accredited institution.
  • 10+ years of experience in a role involving management and leadership.
  • University teaching experience preferred.

Salary
: $15,450.00 per semester-length course teaching
