Piedmont Virginia Community College (PVCC) is a public, open access institution of higher education in the Virginia Community College System whose main campus is located in Charlottesville, Virginia. This is home of the Charlottesville Historic Downtown mall, The Jefferson School African American Heritage Center, and the John Paul Jones Arena (JPJ). Job DescriptionPiedmont Virginia Community College seeks an innovative and collaborative individual to join the faculty as a twelve-month Program Director of Diagnostic Medical SonographyAppointment Date: August 1st, 2024, or before. The successful candidate will teach a maximum of 15 credits per semester (fall/spring) and 10 credits in the summer, which may include day, evening, and weekend off-campus or distance education courses. The approximate salary range for a twelve-month faculty is $85,000-$95,000, depending on education and experience.PVCC desires applicants committed to the community college mission, teaching, learning, and student success, integrating learning outcomes assessment into course development and teaching, using current and emerging technologies to enhance instruction, and taking on other responsibilities contributing to the college’s progress. Finalists will be invited to present a teaching demonstration.

Specific Responsibilities include:

  • Overseeing all aspects of the program
  • Marketing and recruitment of students
  • Work closely with program advisory board members to ensure the curriculum is up to date and meeting the needs of local employers
  • Meet with the advisory board twice per year
  • Work with the clinical coordinator and the division dean to secure clinical site agreements with agencies
  • Collaborate with division dean to establish program budget needs
  • Collaborate with PVCC staff to develop, implement, and evaluate a program marketing strategy.

In addition to teaching/clinical supervision, all faculty members advise students, serve on division and college-wide committees, and participate in other activities that support the college’s mission. Such activities may include, but are not limited to, institutional effectiveness activities, club sponsorship, student recruitment, course and program development and evaluation, community service, and mentoring new and part-time faculty. Faculty members are expected to maintain currency in their teaching disciplines and trends in community college education.

Required Qualifications:

  • Possess a minimum of a bachelor’s degree
  • Have documented experience in supervision, instruction, evaluation, student guidance, and educational theories and techniques.
  • Have coursework in instructional methodologies, evaluation, and assessment
  • Possess the appropriate credential(s) specific to the Abdomen and OB-GYN concentrations.
  • Have proficiency in curriculum development.
  • Possess at least two years of full-time experience as a registered sonographer in the professional sonography field. Full-time is defined as 35 hours per week.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to the community college mission and philosophy, students, and teaching in a community college.
  • Commitment to academic advisement and mentoring of students.
  • ·Ability to teach during day, evening, and weekend hours and travel to locations within Central Virginia.
  • Ability to use current and emerging instructional technologies and distance learning technologies.
  • Proficient in curriculum design, evaluation, instruction, and academic advising.
  • Understands the importance of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.
  • Proven ability to work as a team leader, appropriately exhibiting a positive attitude and sense of humor.
  • Familiarity with regional accreditation standards, certification, and licensure requirements.
  • Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to the comprehensive mission of community colleges.

Additional Considerations:

  • Master’s degree or higher in a field related to imaging sciences or education.
  • Additional certification in an echo or vascular sonography concentration.
  • Experience with online teaching
  • Experience teaching in higher education, especially within a community college
  • Experience advising and mentoring students
  • Experience working with a diverse student population
  • Familiarity with the use of instructional technology to enhance teaching and learning.
  • Experience with active learning, team-based learning, and/or other student-centered teaching style.
  • Experience developing online courses in a college setting.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $85,000.00 - $95,000.00 per year
