What We Are Looking For

NCU is currently seeking a dynamic individual to become part of our School of Education team as the Director of the Center for Higher Education Innovation and Leadership and Professor within the School of Education.


SUMMARY

This position will primarily serve as the Director of the Center for Higher Education Innovation and Leadership within the School of Education. The Director is responsible for innovative higher education leadership program design, implementation, and oversight as well as the development and coordination of a virtual higher education center. The Director will work collaboratively with other School of Education leaders and faculty to create innovative higher education leadership programs aligned with yet differentiated from PK-12 programs. The Director will also work collaboratively with other institutional departments to further foster quality of programming as well as support student enrollment and retention. The Director will possess a doctorate in education with an experienced background in virtual higher education as well as a proven record of innovative thought, program development, and a continual focus on emerging trends. Demonstrated experience in creating and maintaining websites, blogs, and podcasts is also needed. The Director will also teach graduate and doctoral higher education leadership courses as well as serve on related dissertation committees. The Director will report to the Associate Dean of Faculty in the School of Education


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:


  • Demonstrates a commitment to Northcentral’s vision, mission, and goals and those of the School of Education.
  • Promotes a graduate culture of scholarship, teaching, service, and practice.
  • Demonstrates commitment to and capacity for Teaching through Engagement and using the NCU One-to-One, apprenticeship style teaching model.
  • Teaches masters and/or doctoral courses in the Education Programs.
  • Participates in initial and ongoing training.
  • Contributes to developing training materials and provides input on improving training, courses, and processes.
  • Participates in trial use of new technologies and integrates new technologies into their teaching.
  • Participates in faculty and staff meetings.
  • Maintains contact with students via phone, video conferencing, and email through their courses.
  • Works collaboratively with Academic Advisors to ensure student engagement and success.
  • Exercises academic freedom in teaching course content and achieving learning outcomes in accordance with University policy, procedures, and curricula.
  • Participates in program and student assessment procedures, program review, and accreditation efforts.
  • Performs all educational services in accordance with NCU policies and procedures, the Family Education Rights to Privacy Act, Northcentral University’s Code of Conduct and all other state and federal laws.
  • Complete all required professional development activities as defined in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Tasks and projects as assigned by the Dean, or NCU administrators.
  • Reasonable and consistent attendance to fulfill requirements of the position.
  • Researches and develops innovative higher education programs at the master’s and doctoral levels to effectively prepare higher education leaders for current and future trends and challenges within higher education institutions.
  • Coordinates the development of specific higher education leadership graduate courses based-on NCU’s student engagement model of teaching and learning.
  • Leads the development and supervision of a virtual higher education center to provide pertinent information and dialogue for higher education leaders and students.
  • Collaborates with internal and external experts across areas of virtual higher education leadership.
  • Remains knowledgeable and supportive of the instructional and learning needs of students pursing roles in higher education leadership.
  • Promotes a graduate culture of academic excellence and scholarship through on-going engagement activities with students and alumni as well as through personal professional development and service to the larger University community.
  • Teaches graduate and doctoral level higher education courses, serves as Dissertation Chair and Subject Matter Expert, and conducts related research.
  • Demonstrates commitment to and capacity for understanding and supporting NCU’s One-to-One Teaching through Engagement model.
  • Maintains contact with students via phone, video conferencing, email, and other tools provided for synchronous or asynchronous communication through their courses.
  • Exercises academic freedom in teaching course content and achieving learning outcomes in accordance with University policy, procedures, and curricula.
  • Works collaboratively with other NCU departments and partners to include, but not limited to, Curriculum, Assessment, Human Resources, Marketing, Grants, Library, Partnerships, Enrollment, Advising, and Alumni.
  • Participates in shared governance within the School of Education as well as within the larger University.
  • Demonstrates a commitment to Northcentral’s vision, mission, and goals and those of the School of Education and the virtual higher education center.
  • Experience with organizing blogs, podcasts, and webinars.
  • Knowledgeable about social media and web marketing specific to research and practical application.
  • Participates in initial and ongoing training.
  • Participates in the School of Education leadership and faculty meetings.
  • Upholds and utilizes University and School of Education student assessment procedures, department and program reviews, and accreditation efforts.
  • Performs all educational services in accordance with NCU policies and procedures, the Family Education Rights to Privacy Act, Northcentral University’s Code of Conduct and all other state and federal laws.
  • Adheres to policies and requirements defined in the Faculty Handbook.
  • Tasks and projects as assigned by the Dean Associate Dean, or other NCU administrators.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Reasonable and consistent attendance to fulfill requirements of the position.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, with a proven ability to provide timely, accurate information on a variety of academically oriented subjects to both internal and external constituents.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to identify problems, collect information, establish facts, draw valid conclusions, and recommend and implement policies and processes to advance continuous improvement efforts.
  • Ability to evaluate information to make informed and responsive decisions on matters impacting University stakeholders.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and governing body regulations.
  • Ability to process, analyze, and present qualitative and quantitative data.
  • Skill in operating equipment, such as personal computer, copier, phone systems.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Word and other applications in the Microsoft Office suite.

    EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

    • Doctorate degree in Education or a related field from a regionally accredited institution, PhD preferred.
    • 3-5 years experience in Education preferred.
    • Online teaching experience preferred.
    • Curriculum development experience preferred.
    • Experience with the online delivery of education and the systems that support it.
    • Proficiency in the use of technology in the delivery of education.
    • Experience in Higher Education preferred.
    • Experience working in a technology-driven enterprise preferred.
    • All skills, abilities and education will be considered for minimum qualifications.


    PHYSICAL DEMANDS

    The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to perform the essential functions of this job successfully. The physical requirements for performing the essential functions of this position require the team member to be able to:


    • Able to lift, push, pull, and/or move up to 20 pounds.
    • Hear well enough to communicate with others.
    • Read a computer screen and written material.
    • Write, type, and use phone system.

    WORKING CONDITIONS

    This position operates in a remote, home office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, printers, and phones.

    • Good working environment with the absence of disagreeable conditions.
    • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
    • Regular and reliable attendance is required.
