DESCRIPTION

The Center for Academic Research and Training in Anthropogeny (CARTA) is a Center in Health Sciences established in close collaboration with the Salk Institute for Biological Studies. The goals of CARTA are scholarly and represent over 20 years of transdisciplinary interactions amongst colleagues on the La Jolla mesa and throughout the world who share an interest in explaining the origins and working of the human phenomenon. Primary activities of the Center are to organize multidisciplinary scientific symposia and an active research program, which facilitate graduate education via a UC San Diego Graduate Specialization in Anthropogeny (administered by CARTA) to students in 8 participating existing Ph.D. programs, curate/maintain extensive teaching collections in CARTA's Museum of Primatology, and maintain specialized primatology and anthropogeny libraries.

Applies knowledge about curriculum, requirements and educational activities to coordinate professional health education programs. Coordinates and maintains program operations, which may include teaching and learning activities, program curriculum, learner scheduling, maintaining databases, tracking learner compliance, and program accreditation.

Under general supervision, the incumbent will apply acquired skills, process, and policy knowledge to support the Center for Academic Research & Training in Anthropogeny (CARTA). Incumbent will coordinate educational workshops, collaborate on innovative curriculum, facilitate and manage operations of Center programming. Will frequently share expertise, oversee and manage development and implementation of training.

Incumbent provides program administration and management for the Graduate Specialization in Anthropogeny offered by the Faculty of Anthropogeny to students in the following Ph.D. programs: Anthropology, Biological Sciences, Biomedical Sciences, Cognitive Science, Linguistics, Neurosciences, Psychology, and Visual Arts. Serves as lead in planning, executing, and attending the Anthropogeny Summer Field Course in Africa, and assists with organization and execution of the CARTA Symposium Series; both of which include participants from the Graduate Specialization in Anthropogeny as part of their coursework.

Coordinates CARTA's marketing and branding, which involves planning, composing, and creating original graphic designs, including branding and visual themes, from conceptualization to completion, for posters, newsletters, marketing brochures, flyers, banners, electronic presentations, presentation slides, web graphics, and various multimedia materials for all CARTA symposia, programs and organization. Assists in fundraising for CARTA's research and educational missions

Serves as manager of CARTA's Museum of Primatology (MOP)/Library of Anthropogeny (LOA)/Library of Primatology (LOP), responsible for curating and maintaining a large and diverse teaching collection comprised of chimpanzee and macaque skeletons, thousands of x-rays, 35 years of individual, longitudinal medical records on fifty-four chimpanzees, a comprehensive research database of all medical data and digitized images, and a primatology and anthropogeny library. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven (7) years of related experience or a Bachelor's degree in a relevant area plus three (3) years of experience. Master's degree in a related area preferred.

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant policies and regulatory requirements. Solid knowledge of health professions education program requirements. Thorough knowledge of health professions education industry.

  • Thorough knowledge of administrative analysis and operations research. Demonstrated ability to develop and implement processes and systems. Thorough knowledge of the administrative and operational implications in a program.

  • Demonstrated experience and documented excellence in oral and written communications skills; includes active listening and critical thinking.

  • Strong interpersonal skills. Actively cooperates and supports the work of others. Ability to work productively with anyone regardless of background. Empathetic and aware of impact on others. Strong problem solving skills to assist learners and resolve issues.

  • Excellent organizational skills, analytical, and demonstrated attention to detail. Ability to complete work and meet established deadlines in an accurate and timely manner, and to manage short and competing deadlines.

  • Thorough knowledge of educational software and platforms. Demonstrated ability to analyze and seek solutions to enhance the user experience. Demonstrated skill in using word processing, database, spreadsheet, presentation, and web maintenance software, such as Microsoft Office and to prepare reports, letters/memos, spreadsheets, and power point/graphical presentations. Thorough knowledge of applicable publishing software applications. Willingness to regularly maintain and update technology skills as required.

  • Thorough knowledge of data management, documentation methods used in investigating and presenting findings about the program. Skills include statistical analysis of data across databases and systems.

  • Ability to counsel students on program requirements, career opportunities, and demonstrate excellent customer service skills.

  • Knowledge of the principles of conservation / preservation. Extensive knowledge of techniques and processes to prepare, catalogue, preserve, and curate a large teaching collection of skeletons of several species.

  • Specialization in an area of the museum's collection and knowledge of standard museum curatorial practices. Strong familiarity with Osteology; Human & Primate Genetics and Evolution; Paleoanthropology and hominid origins; Mammalian and Primate Neurosciences; Primate Biology & Medicine; Language and Cognition; Nature-Nuture Interactions in Explaining Language and Cognition; Comparative Developmental Biology of Primates.

  • Working knowledge of marketing principles.

  • Demonstrated knowledge and artistic experience in graphic design, including developing graphics, creating layouts, and obtaining images for both print publications and web pages as well as experience with print production processes.

  • Experience in planning and executing large educational events and/or field courses that involve international travel logistics.

Job offer is contingent upon satisfactory clearance based on Background Check results.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $67,200 - $119,600 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $32.18 - $57.28

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
