Job Summary

The Human Resources Manager is responsible for developing and executing Don Bosco Cristo Rey’s human resources strategy daily and daily HR operations. This individual will be a strategic business partner, establishing rapport at all levels within the school, will cultivate relationships to ensure that HR delivers value, excellent service, and operational efficiency. This individual will foster respect, trust, and collaboration among team members and will possess the ability to manage through change with flexibility and poise.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities:

Recruiting and Staffing

  • Support recruiting efforts with consultant for all internally promoted and externally sourced hires. Maintain diverse pipelines for recruitment of faculty and staff. Actively recruit for positions through interviews and sourcing.
  • Process and track background checks and clearances for all employees and volunteers.
  • Conduct the onboarding of all new employees.
  • Ensure consistent interviewing, hiring, and new employee orientation practices across all departments and assist with each process as needed.
  • Maintain updated job descriptions for all employees.
  • Conduct offboarding of all employees including exit interviews.

Benefits and Compensation

  • Review and recommend compensation strategies within the organization’s philosophies and strategies for new hires, promotions, and equity/merit adjustments.
  • Lead benefit administration and act as a liaison between the school and external benefit providers.
  • Assist with the planning and execution of special events such as benefits enrollment, retirement planning, and required training.

Employee Relations

  • Manage and resolve employee relations issues. Conduct effective, thorough, and objective interviews, investigations, and documentation.
  • Develop and conduct an employee engagement survey and analyze and report results to the Leadership Team and the staff as needed.
  • Drive the mid-year and end-of-year performance evaluation process for staff. Provide trends and analysis to leadership.
  • Provide day to day performance management guidance to leaders i.e., coaching, counseling, career development, and disciplinary actions.
  • Design processes to improve employee retention including professional development and DEI initiatives.

HR Compliance

  • Work closely with HR legal counsel to ensure compliance with organization policies and relevant local, state, and federal laws.
  • Work with the Archdiocese of Washington on FMLA Leave, workers compensation claims (for both employees and student workers), and unemployment claims.
  • Maintain the integrity and confidentiality of human resource files and records.
  • Coordinate with Senior Director of Operations to ensure completion of year-end ACA reporting.
  • Update Employee Handbook as needed

Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

  • Direct and support the DEI Committee.
  • Work with Committee on DEI-related events, training, and professional development.
  • Assist and support members of the Committee and the faculty and administration in implementing DEI strategies and initiatives.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Required Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, business administration or related field required
  • 3-5+ years of experience in HR. Previous experience working in a school or for a non-profit is preferred
  • SHRM certification preferred

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to manage sensitive information and confidential situations with tact, professionalism, and diplomacy
  • Strong written, verbal, and presentation skills, with a sharp attention to detail
  • A steward of ethical behavior who actively supports a diverse, welcoming, and inclusive workplace culture
  • Inclusive thinker with strong analytical capacity
  • A willingness to contribute to the overall success and smooth operation of the school through active collaboration with other school leaders
  • Previous experience with DEIB
  • Experience with full cycle recruiting, employee onboarding, strong employee relations, and talent management
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred, but not required
  • Desire to work at a faith-based educational institution
  • Understanding and commitment to the educational mission of the Archdiocese of Washington, the Salesians of Don Bosco, and the vision of the Cristo Rey Network
