Under the supervision of the Provost and Dean of the Faculty, the Dean of Extended Campus and Online Programs is responsible for leading, managing, and coordinating all operations of and strategic planning for the ECOL program. Primary responsibilities include: leading and facilitating the development, implementation, and assessment of all extended campus and online programs; in coordination with Program Coordinators for Online Programs and School Deans and the Director of Instructional Design and Technology, provide leadership to continuously improve curriculum, instruction, assessment, and faculty development coordination, build and sustain quality and academic integrity in all programs, and seek to improve student learning and success. In cooperation and coordination with Admissions, Marketing, Business Office, and other college departments, assure integrated and professional operation of the ECOL program and its processes both on campus, at extended campus sites, and as programs interface with other institutions (e.g., community colleges; consortia agreements). The successful candidate will demonstrate strong entrepreneurial leadership, experience with ECOL programs, and provide evidence of resourcefulness and problem-solving acumen. In addition, the Dean will have full faculty status with a minimum of .5 FTE for administration.

Essential Functions

  • In collaboration with others, develop policies, procedures, and standards for effective operations and management and lead in their implementation.
  • Collaborate with Program Coordinators, faculty, and Deans to strengthen existing programs and plan for new programs, including annual goals, strategies, and action plans.
  • Coordinate and collaborate with Admissions and the Registrar on all recruitment, admission, and college-related processes (e.g., immediate transcript review and response to potential students; align and streamline processes)
  • Manage and lead physical and budgetary resources of ECOL.
  • Collaborate with student life, bookstore, marketing, and communications to support student success.
  • Communicate with all stakeholders in an organized manner and on a frequent basis (e.g., Provost, VP Admissions, ECOL team, Deans, external agencies, business, and educational partners)
  • Working with the Director of Instructional Design and Technology, plan for and facilitate the professional and consistent templates in Brightspace and in the delivery of ongoing faculty development for both seated and online teaching including technologies, methods, and procedures.
  • Work with the Dean of PACE to assure academic support services (e.g. placement testing, tutoring, first-year transitions, writing center), as needed, for first-year students, accessibility accommodations, and other academic support services.
  • Ensure compliance with college, state, and federal codes, guidelines, and policies [including accreditation standards for SACS; copyright, intellectual property rights, and Section 508 compliance with Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)].
  • Serve as one of the college’s contacts for NC-SARA as well as to other ECOL-related entities, maintaining ECOL records and files and providing accurate information for internal and external reports.
  • Teach up to two courses per term in a discipline offered by the college.

Supervisory Responsibility
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.

Work Environment
Normal office environment where there is no physical discomfort due to temperature, dust, noise, and the like.

Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.

The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.

Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This is a full-time, 12-month position. Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5 p.m. Occasional evening and weekend work may be required as job duties demand.

Travel
No travel is expected for this position.

Required Education and Experience
Education: PhD or equivalent

Three-years demonstrated experience in responsible leadership roles in higher education and ECOL-related programs.

Demonstrated ability to collaborate in writing and administering grants

Experience:

  • Matriculation processes and procedures for ECOL programs
  • Current developments, issues, trends and best practices for ECOL and its technologies
  • Modes of delivery including online, ITV, hybrid, and video conferencing
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing
