POSITION TITLE: Information Technology Analyst III

POSITION SUMMARY:

We have an exciting opportunity for an Information Technology Analyst III to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in supporting Windows and Mac devices, including various operating systems. The candidate must also possess extensive experience in JAMF administration to manage and support our fleet of Apple devices effectively. The position is fully onsite.

The candidate will manage the configuration, installation, and maintenance of complex personal computers and Linux operating systems. The role involves leading the daily administration of servers and desktop workstations, conducting analysis of intricate laboratory computer configurations, and providing technical assistance and consulting to users. Key responsibilities include monitoring and troubleshooting the environment for issues, installing software upgrades as needed, and performing the installation, modification, and repair of workstations and peripheral equipment.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provide advanced support for Windows and Mac devices, including installation, configuration, troubleshooting, and maintenance of hardware and software.
  • Manage and support multiple operating systems (Windows 10/11, macOS, etc.), ensuring systems are up to date and secure.
  • Administer and manage JAMF Pro for the deployment, configuration, and management of macOS and iOS devices. Create and maintain JAMF policies, profiles, and scripts.
  • Lead the daily administration of servers and desktop workstations. This role involves managing the complex configuration, installation, and maintenance of operating systems, software upgrades, RAM, third-party applications, and peripheral equipment.
  • Diagnose complex hardware and software problems, manage and recommend system configuration changes, and provide consulting on system purchase and retirement issues.
  • Examining system log and error files and using standard OS tools to assess system load and performance.
  • Provide basic support and answer routine end-user questions related to user accounts, tape archival and retrieval, printing, mail and network access, and other system-related inquiries.
  • This role involves coordinating work related to vendor maintenance agreements, and tracking design and operational problems to be resolved by the vendors.
  • Log maintenance, system configurations, and hardware/software repairs. This role also involves maintaining records for system hardware/software modifications and managing licenses for individual software packages.
  • Analyze and optimize laboratory computer systems and network configurations.
  • Writes and develops tools to create maintenance and tracking logs and write web interface to system documentation.
  • Organizes and teaches computer and network training sessions for end-users and systems administrators. Prepares lectures and written materials.
  • Determines feasibility of new operating systems and system software upgrades with consideration of application and hardware requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education, training and experience.
  • Minimum 5 years of relevant Windows and Mac OSX system administration experience, or equivalent training and experience in a networked, enterprise environment.
  • Strong analytical, verbal and written communications skills.
  • Understanding of host and network monitoring tools.
  • Knowledge of modern hypervisors is essential.
  • Excellent customer service orientation.
  • Advanced working knowledge of debugging skills in a heterogeneous, networked environment are helpful.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with customers at various technical and organizational levels from diverse cultural backgrounds, languages and nationalities.
  • This is an on-campus position requiring 4 days per week working onsite from our La Jolla campus, with flexibility to work 1 day per week remotely from home.

COMPENSATON:

The expected hiring range for this position is $36.86 to $41.15/hourly, commensurate with experience. Consideration will be given to experience that exceeds the listed requirements.
