Job Summary

The Executive Director of Early Childhood Education (ED ECE) at Midland College will provide critical leadership in early childhood initiatives and serve as the liaison between the Provost and key stakeholders in the Pre-K Academy at Midland College. The ED ECE will work closely with other administrators, faculty, and staff to enhance pre-k and college-level student learning in the on-campus lab school and advance the Midland College mission and strategic plan to #StartStriveSucceed.

The ED ECE will oversee all aspects of the Pre-K Academy at Midland College, ensuring that it serves as an exemplary lab school supporting the college’s teacher preparation program. The ED ECE will mentor faculty in their cooperating teacher role and serve as a cooperating campus administrator for student teaching.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Education or a directly related field from an accredited university
  • Texas Standard Principal certificate or mid-management certificate
  • Five years of administrative/campus leadership experience, inclusive of three years of early childhood education experience
  • Thorough knowledge of public education’s principles, methods, strategies, goals, and objectives
  • Demonstrated competence in establishing and maintaining effective collaboration with partner entities
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

  • Doctorate in Education or directly related field from an accredited university

Essential Functions

  • Executive Leadership – The ED ECE establishes and implements a shared vision and culture of collective responsibility with high expectations for staff and students.
    • Carries out responsibilities with little or no supervision
    • Effectively plans, organizes, and coordinates the management functions and activities of school operation
    • Establishes and maintains a shared vision of success
    • Outlines and tracks clear goals, targets, and strategies aligned to the college’s mission
    • Establishes a culture of continuous improvement, seeking the best opportunities and programs for students
    • Develops and implements strategic plans and makes decisions that effectively support college goals
    • Develops and uses conflict-management and consensus-building skills
  • Instructional Leadership—The EC EDE develops and supports rigorous and coherent systems of curriculum, instruction, and assessment, ensuring the success of each pre-k student. Additionally, the executive director creates and oversees an exemplary lab school environment supporting the college’s teacher preparation program.
    • Ensures a standards-based and aligned curriculum that meets the needs of all students and student groups
    • Ensures the implementation of high-quality, effective classroom instructional strategies that improve performance of all students and student groups, ensuring equity and eliminating achievement gaps
    • Mentors faculty in their cooperating teacher role and serves as a cooperating campus administrator for student teaching
    • Models, promotes, and ensures implementation of technology and effective digital instructional tools to support individualized student learning
    • Employs student-level data to drive continuous improvement, ensuring every student has sufficient opportunity to meet and exceed standards
  • Human Capital—The ED ECE fosters and develops the highest level of professional capacity, creating sustainable, collective effectiveness among all campus personnel.
    • Recruits, hires, mentors, and retains high-quality staff
    • Conducts regular evaluations of staff for continuous improvement and accountability for results
    • Trains, develops, and supports a high-performing campus staff
    • Deals sensitively and fairly with persons from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Strategic Operations—The ED ECE strategically plans and ensures that campus operations and resources promote the academic success and well-being of each student.
    • Manages resources (people, financial, equipment) effectively to support the organizational goals
    • Commits to securing outside sources of funding for operations, creative projects, and scholarships
    • Utilizes all funds in compliance with state and federal guidelines while maximizing the goals of the campus
    • Ensures campus facilities, equipment, and support systems operate safely, efficiently and effectively
    • Establishes organizational structures and practices for all stakeholders that result in the effective and efficient operation of the campus to ensure student achievement
  • Professional Responsibilities—The ED ECE acts ethically and professionally, relentlessly pursuing continual improvement.
    • Cultivates, develops, maintains, and prioritizes strong partnerships
    • Interacts effectively with students, staff, parents, and community members
    • Models and promotes the highest standards of conduct, ethical principles, and integrity in decision-making, actions, and behaviors
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to occasionally move or drive to other locations on and off campus
  • This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently moves boxes or equipment weighing up to 20 pounds

  • Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events

Pay Statement

Salary is commensurate with educational qualifications and experience.
