Job Summary

The Instructional and Curriculum Lead position will be responsible for overseeing the instructional coaching for instructors, both GED and ESL; updating syllabus for GED and ESL classes; creating syllabus for contextualization classes for IETS; managing and scheduling professional development activities for the staff; assisting with successful class preparations and delivery; doing surveys both for students and instructors; collecting and filing results and documentations from instructors. The Instructional and Curriculum Lead will work closely with the instructors, GED and ESL coordinators to enhance student learning and improve the quality of the program.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Minimum one year of experience in professional development, teaching, and/or training
  • Proficient in the use of standard office software applications
  • Willingness to work evening hours and flexible schedule to meet program demands
  • Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s license, good driving record, and be insurable on Midland College’s insurance policy

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Experience creating curriculum and facilitating learning sessions
  • Experience teaching adults and diverse student populations
  • Experience in engaging teaching and learning practices
  • Knowledge of grant work

Essential Functions

  • Serves as an Instruction and Curriculum Lead for the AEL program
  • Assists in the development, delivery, documentation, and maintenance of adult education classes
  • Serves as an instructional coach and oversees instruction of adults in AEL classes
  • Conducts classroom observations, regular instructor meetings, and instructor onboarding to ensure curriculum alignment and clear objectives across the program
  • Serves as the Professional Development Coordinator for the department
  • Assists with class scheduling and securing appropriate instructors
  • Ensures appropriate resources are available for effective instruction
  • Works closely with AEL Director, GED Coordinator, and ESL Coordinator to implement learner-participatory instruction that addresses learner’s needs and learning styles
  • Other duties as assigned

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to remain in a stationary position 50% of the time
  • Must be able to sit or stand for long periods of time
  • The person in this position needs to move to other locations on campus occasionally
  • This position may require occasional travel for training, meetings, and events both in and out of town
  • Repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation
  • Use of manual dexterity
  • The person in this position frequently communicates with others; must be able to exchange accurate information
  • Frequently moves equipment or paperwork weighing up to 25 pounds
  • Duties indoors and some outdoors
  • Ability to work extended hours and attend Midland College or community events
