Position Summary

The Research Associate II, Cell Culture will assist the Associate Director and Senior Research Associate with the culturing, plating, distribution, maintenance, and banking of cell culture lines. The position will work to support cell and tissue culture activities in a group environment. The role will also contribute towards development of analytical methods for cell characterization.

Essential Functions

  • Culture cells across a variety of cell lines (adherent and suspension) using optimal growth conditions and supply them for the analytical/process development team.
  • Optimize thaw conditions and recovery, expansion and cryopreservation of cells.
  • Maintain multiple cell lines and supply working cell cultures for analytical/process development team.
  • Read, understand and execute SOPs related to media preparation and cell banking activities.
  • Proactively respond to banking needs as they may change at an expedited pace.
  • Support cell-based assays such as flow cytometry, Immunoassays (ELISA and MSD) to characterize the target cell lines and the cellular products.
  • Organize and manage data/documentation relating to cell banking activities.
  • Perform analytical testing including endotoxin testing, mycoplasma detection, and cell characterization as assigned.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree with 3+ years of experience in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or a related field; or Master's degree with 1+ years in Biology, Biochemistry, Immunology or a related field
  • 2+ years of experience in a cell culture setting
  • Experience working in a lab, with basic lab skill knowledge (pipetting, dilutions, titrations, calculating doubling time, etc.).
  • Experience with one or more immunological assays (flow cytometry, ELISA, MSD) is required
  • Lab experience and training including mammalian cell culture, aseptic technique, sterile media preparation, tissue culture room maintenance, routine testing for endotoxin and mycoplasma

  • Demonstrates excellent attention to detail, can work quickly and accurately, organizing tasks and delivering quality with efficiency.
  • Ability to work and maintain strong relationships with department managers, members of your team and other departmental staff.
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Ability to thrive in an efficient, highly interactive, goal-oriented team environment
  • Work with minimal supervision
  • Ability to perform troubleshooting.
  • Skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Power point.
  • Good written/verbal communication skills and ability to manage time efficiently.

Working Environment / Physical Environment

  • This position works in a lab environment
  • This position is for bench work in the laboratory
  • Frequently working on the computer for data analysis.
  • Occasionally lifting/carrying 11-20 lbs.

This position is eligible for a discretionary bonus and equity award. The annual base pay range for this position is below. The specific rate will depend on the successful candidate's qualifications, prior experience as well as geographic location.

$75,000 (entry-level qualifications) to $85,000 (highly experienced)
