Police Certification.

Physical Requirements
Lifting, pushing, or pulling of objects up to 100 lbs., sitting for long periods of time, walking for long periods of time, standing for long periods of time, handling intermittent periods of high levels of stress.

Candidates will not be required to complete the physical fitness test portion of Police Officer Professional Standards (POPS) if grandfathered or currently KLEC certified. Shift
12 hour shifts with rotating weekends off. Must be able to work any of the following:

7 am – 7 pm
7 pm – 7 am

Days, Nights, Weekends, Holidays, and mandatory Overtime. Officers must be able to work overtime especially in high volume seasons (university move in, football, basketball, etc.) and change shifts with the needs of the department.

Job Summary
University of Kentucky Police Officers are responsible for providing the University community with a safe and secure environment in which to work, live and learn.
The department is service oriented and specializes in meeting the needs of the campus’ diverse population of students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The major job responsibilities of the University of Kentucky Police Officer include patrol and investigations, public relations and service, community oriented policing, professional development and training, and report writing.

Specific duties include foot, bike, and mobile patrol, responding to service calls, investigating crimes, preparing and presenting testimony in court, community relations with students and campus partners, providing security and traffic control for special University events, writing reports, completing training, and engaging in professional development, and preparing written records including but not limited to citations, criminal reports, and internal documentation.

Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
This position will require candidates to take a polygraph examination as part of the University Police Department’s employment process.

KLEC Police Certification.
