DESCRIPTION

Performs all duties in a manner consistent with current laboratory technical and safety standards, in support of and under the direction the section supervisor and/or pathologist. Under supervision, the Hospital Lab Tech II works at various UCSD locations and performs accessioning of surgical and cytology specimens, assists physicians with fine needle aspiration (FNA) procedures, assists pathologists with intraoperative frozen section procedures, assists with preparation of tissue material send-outs for ancillary testing, monitors inventory and orders supplies, assists in clean-up and maintenance of laboratory, stores and disposes surgical specimens, prepares stain reagents, answers phones, communicates with laboratory customers, and performs other duties as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from college with a major in an applicable natural science; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

  • One (1) year of related high volume lab experience, preferably in a large complex healthcare organization.

  • Proficient knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Access).

  • Demonstrated high accuracy in work performance.

  • Excellent attention to detail.

  • Strong communication skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Pathology experience or clinical lab experience.
  • Specimen handling experience.
  • Reference lab specimen send out experience.
  • Bio-hazardous material shipping experience/certification.
  • Basic knowledge of FedEx/UPS send out/tracking and ability to multi-task with exceptional record keeping skills to track packages and pending orders.
SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be able to work various hours and locations based on business needs.
  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check and pre-employment physical.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $64,999 - $80,868 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $31.13 - $38.73

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
