Director - Strategic Planning & Analysis (Hybrid)

Job Description

Primary Purpose:

Lead the planning and analysis team and other functions of the company in the execution of Sempra's Strategic and Financial Plans. Work with senior management and business units to develop the vision for plans, including credit impacts, and direct financial planning managers and team to execute completion of processes. Responsible for anticipating, identifying and evaluating key impacts (earnings, capital plan, cash flows, balance sheet, credit), changes or developments in businesses and communicating key issues and results to senior management. Drive the direction for team in the execution of its core responsibilities. Create innovative programs that foster technical excellence and empower team members to advance their careers.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Strategic Planning

  • Design and lead execution of Sempra's strategic planning process.
  • Periodically review and redesign the strategy review process where necessary, soliciting feedback from various stakeholders on an ongoing basis.
  • Work with business units and senior management to facilitate robust discussion of key aspects of the strategic plan/review and quantify financial variability and strategic implications of investment decisions.
  • Work with business units and senior management to develop strategic and financial aspirations and monitor progress toward those goals.
  • Work with Investor Relations on developing a concise message on the financial plan, earnings growth, capital plan, sources, and use of funds.

Financial Planning

  • Communicate with other functions (e.g., treasury, tax) and stay abreast of ongoing business issues to ensure the group is aware of impacts to the business.
  • Work with business units and senior management to ensure that Strategy Planning/Review process informs financial plans.
  • Perform conceptual reviews of detailed results of financial plans.
  • Develop presentations that communicate the key results of the financial plan to senior management and the board of directors.
  • Report on a monthly and quarterly basis the financial results compared to the plan.

Corporate Costs

  • Oversee budgeting and management reporting of corporate center costs.

Rating Agency Support

  • Work closely with Treasury and senior management to determine overall credit analysis direction and communicate impact of key projects on credit metrics.

Senior Management Support

  • Oversee development of presentations for senior management and Sempra's Board of Directors that convey Sempra's strategic and financial direction.
  • Stay current on industry and company developments.
  • Keep management informed about business developments and any impacts affecting Sempra, while proactively anticipating business needs.

Team Development

  • Inspire and lead the team to achieve department goals, while providing insightful analysis and strategic guidance to senior management.
  • Create innovative programs that foster technical excellence and empower team members to advance their careers.

Performs other duties as assigned (no more than 5% of duties).
