Director of Violence Prevention and Response

Job Description

DIRECTOR OF VIOLENCE PREVENTION AND RESPONSE (VPR), Student Support and Wellbeing, to provide leadership and oversight of Violence Prevention and Response, including advocacy service that addresses the support needs of students who have experienced sexual assault, dating or domestic violence, stalking, and/or sexual harassment.  Will be responsible for developing and managing campus and community resources to support students who have experienced gender-based violence; building trusted relationships with key stakeholders and championing cross-organizational initiatives with multiple stakeholders; and communicating directly on matters concerning sexual and relationship violence with the appropriate Institute resources, including the Institute Discrimination and Harassment Response Office (IDHR), MIT and local police departments, Student Mental Health and Counseling, and many others.

Job Requirements:

REQUIRED:  bachelor’s degree in education, social work, or related field; five years of experience in higher education or related setting; knowledge of interpersonal violence and victim advocacy; experience working with and building diverse communities; commitment to student wellbeing; excellent speaking, writing, and interpersonal skills; success compiling, managing, and communicating highly confidential information; high level organizational and time management skills; initiative; computer proficiency; and knowledge and understanding of Title IX.  Must be able to balance student advocacy and institutional priorities, risk, and liability; identify students in crisis and respond appropriately; work independently; plan, develop, organize, and follow through on projects and plans in a dynamic, high-pressure environment; and change focus, answer immediate demands, and deal with frequent interruptions.  PREFERRED:  master’s degree.  Job #24153-8

Salary range:  high $80k to high $90k, depending on education and relevant experience.

Must be able to perform on-call responsibilities.
