DESCRIPTION

The UCSD Department of Obstetrics, Gynecology and Reproductive Sciences is composed of 65 faculty and clinical fellows. The department is composed of 6 divisions: Obstetrics and Gynecology, Maternal-Fetal Medicine, Gynecologic Oncology, Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility, Hospitalist, and Urogynecologic and Reconstructive Pelvic Surgery.

Under supervision, the incumbent will assist with image acquisition, segmentation, and analyses which may include handling of animal and human cells and tissues, microscopy (fluorescence and bright field), and data quantification and statistical analyses. Incumbent will support research focused on image-based and computational studies of pelvic skeletal muscle structure, function, and changes due to pregnancy, vaginal birth, injury, and aging.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Graduation from high school or a General Education Diploma and two years of laboratory experience OR two years of college including courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and one year of laboratory experience, OR an equivalent combination of education and experience. Bachelor's degree preferred.

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, internet and email with a willingness to learn new programs as needed.

  • Demonstrated ability to utilize analytical skills, and knowledge to perform basic laboratory calculations.

  • Ability to follow established lab protocols and work effectively with minimal instruction.

  • Ability to learn new imaging and segmentation techniques as needed.

  • Good interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills. Demonstrated ability in using tact, diplomacy, discretion, and flexibility with diverse personalities and situations. Skill to work as part of a research team and to interact effectively with faculty, students, and staff.

  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of matters related to research.

  • Familiarity with basic procedures regarding utilizing and managing protected health information and clinical imaging in a research setting.

  • Knowledge/understanding and at least some experience with Safety Data Sheets, hazard communication and Injury and Illness Prevention Program. Familiarity with a Chemical Hygiene Plan addressing safety precautions including appropriate clothing and shoes, safe handling of chemicals, use of protective items. Willingness and ability to keep safety training current and consistent with research involvement.

  • Knowledge of basic lab operations, procedures, and proper use and maintenance of lab equipment.

  • Familiarity with basic and general techniques for tissue histology.

  • Experience in the preparation of scientific reagents including common stock solutions, buffers, and media.

SPECIAL CONDITIONS
  • Must be willing to work with biohazardous materials.

  • Must be willing to work with rodents, including euthanizing animals and post-operative care.

  • Employment is subject to a criminal background check.

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $44,662 - $52,513 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $21.39 - $25.15

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
