Job Description

This position will work a hybrid schedule which includes a combination of working both onsite at La Jolla and remote.

DESCRIPTION

Under general supervision, this position uses technical acumen for planning, designing, developing, implementing and administering data-based systems that acquire, prepare, store and provide access to data and metadata. Maintains and optimizes systems and migrates data and systems as needed. Ensures integrity and completeness of data and workflow, manages and / or develops data practices, databases and information systems as well as guidelines, dictionaries, registries and / or services. May include interpretation of scientific research data artifacts as well as mediation across science and technology domains and long-term data care. Asinformation architect and data steward, designs systems, data products and / or data production processes while focusing on data curation, data exchange, data security, data integrity and information environments. Evaluates/reevaluates frameworks, strategies, standards and standards-making activities. May involve work with a project-level data repository, a center or an archive.

Applies skills as a seasoned, experienced data / information management professional with full understanding of industry practices and campus / medical center / OP and department methodologies, policies and procedures to resolve complex and wide ranging issues where analyses of situations or data requires a review of a variety of factors. Demonstrates competency in selecting methods and techniques to obtain solutions. Performs other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Seven years of related experience, education/training, OR a Bachelor's degree in related area plus three years of related experience/training

  • Ability to prepare data models unassisted.

  • Familiarity with data model patterns in one or more common business or academic domains.

  • Familiarity with logical data design and data mapping or data conversion.

  • Familiarity with data quality and governance issues and requirements.

  • Ability to represent relevant information in abstract models.

  • Thorough knowledge of data management systems, practices and standards.

  • Thorough knowledge of relevant rules and regulations.

  • Demonstrated ability to work with others from diverse backgrounds. Demonstrated effectivecommunication and interpersonal skills. Demonstrated service orientation skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to communicate technical information to technical and non-technicalpersonnel at various levels in the organization.

  • Self-motivated and works independently and as part of a team.

  • Demonstrated strong problem-solving skills. Able to learn effectively and meet deadlines.

  • Strong organizational skills.

  • Strong analytical and design skills, including the ability to abstract information requirements from real-world processes to understand information flows in computer systems.

  • Ability to represent relevant information in abstract models. Critical thinking skills and attention to detail.

  • Proficient in scripting languages (e.g. Python, JavaScript) and experienced with data processing frameworks (e.g. Logstash, Elastic Beats/Agent/Fleet).

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Elastic Certified Engineer or Analyst

Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $82,500 - $151,500 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $39.51 - $72.56

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
