As the Senior Project Manager/Engineer for Naval Autonomy and Combat Boat 90 Crewmember, you'll be joining a core functional team helping Saab Inc. deliver value to our clients. This role will focus primarily on leading and coordinating operational logistics for maritime projects, along with ensuring the best value for customers (public sector and commercial) and the company.

One of the major facets of this role is managing the operational activities for the CB90 project, Saab's new generation combat boat. The Senior Project Manager/Engineer will:

  • Be the primary or secondary vessel master, ensuring all aspects of CB90 planning, logistics, operations, and maintenance occur safely, efficiently, and effectively.

  • Operate the company-owned vessel in a legal, safe, and reliable manner, representing the company to customers and guests in a professional manner.

  • Supervise a team of operators, technical support, and shore support members, in both operational and maintenance duties.

  • Ensure that compliance with all applicable bodies of law regarding both the condition and operation of the company-owned vessel are followed.

  • Assume full responsibility for the day-to-day maintenance and repair of the company-owned vessel; including recommendations for major refits, including contractors and suppliers to be used, ensuring maximum safety and reliability of operation for both guests and crew.

  • Review and approve all day-to-day expenditures associated with the operation and maintenance of the company-owned vessel, ensuring efficient and reasonable results.

Additionally, the Senior Project Manager/Engineer will:

  • Discuss our capabilities with a strong degree of technical understanding to a wide range of audiences, including engineers, scientists, intelligence analysts, procurement officers, and senior ranking officials from both the government and industry.

  • Support competitive analysis and technical communications strategies with our marketing team. This includes contributing to internal knowledge base of product questions and alignment with product vision.

  • Support and provide technical external communications, including national press, trade association articles, blog posts, and talking points to convey Saab's vision.

  • Engage with customers to interpret how their needs can fit into our product and ensure project costs, schedule requirements, and technical requirements are all met.

  • Identify opportunities for product improvements that enhance the overall program as well as opportunities in adjacent market spaces and future roadmaps.

  • Research and gather user experience and customer needs from both existing and potential customers.

  • Provide program status updates, delays and barriers, milestones accomplishments, and recommendations to the Chief Strategy Officer and Operations organizations.

  • Project planning including staffing, cost account management, risk management and proposal development.

Compensation Range: $93,400-$116,800

This position is located at the Saab, Inc. San Diego office location and is eligible for the Saab, Inc. relocation package.

When extending an offer, Saab, Inc. considers factors including (but not limited to) the role and associated responsibilities, location, and market and business considerations, as well as the candidate's work experience, key skills, and education/training.

Skills and Experience:

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Valid USCG 100 ton Master License (or better)

  • Direct experience working with the U.S. Navy to lead operations activities.

  • Special Warfare Combatant Crewmen (NEC 052A or CWO 717x), USCG Opposing Force Tactical Coxswain or Marine Special Operations Command Critical Skills Operator (MOS 0372)

  • Exhibit leadership for executing practical application of engineering processes on a development program and maintaining engineering rigor while balancing cost, technical, and schedule.

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective professional relationships internally and across government, industry and academic organizations.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills. Proven ability to communicate well with peers, various levels of management, and customers.

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems while prioritizing tasks

  • Ability to maintain calm and take control in various situations

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Current eligibility for a U.S. secret security clearance.

  • Experience with maritime systems and naval operations.

  • Experience working with DARPA or other DoD research laboratories.

  • Military or DoD experience, especially with unmanned systems.

  • Experience with Unmanned Aircraft Systems (UAS) and Counter-UAS systems.

  • Experience with EO/IR PTZ camera, passive and active radar system sensor software integration.

  • Cross-Domain experience in both machine learning and RF technologies.

  • Interest in data fusion, classical and modern control systems, and self-healing autonomy research.

Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
