POSITION TITLE: Distance Education Coordinator
DEPARTMENT: Academics
REPORTS TO: Dean of Academics
CLASSIFICATION:
REVISED: November 2023
PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Responsible for the development and operation of the College’s Distance Education in a 12-month position. The Coordinator works with faculty and staff in the development and promotion of distance education, alternative distance learning delivery methods, develop online courses and provide student and faculty support services in the areas of instructional design/technology.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: Essential and other important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:
· Manages and oversees the development of distance learning support service and operations.
· Supports instruction design for faculty teaching online and distance learning courses including development of instructional strategies, course materials, assessment techniques, appropriate integration of instructional technologies and best practices.
· Designs, develops, and delivers workshops and online training to faculty and staff in the use of instructional technologies and educational best practices, instructional resources, instructional technologies and multimedia hardware/software to support teaching and learning.
· Aid students in the areas of distance education, tech support, and training.
· Develop and teach a computer basics course for students and the community.
· Apply instructional design theory and the appropriate utilization of instructional technology tools, and media to enhance learning and interaction.
· Participating in the design, development, and maintenance of learning technology materials and applications.
· Plan, create, develop and support distance learning initiatives and provide technical expertise for the programming of online content for students, staff and faculty.
· Analyzing learning and technology needs and partnering with subject matter experts to develop technical designs and correct deliver method,
· Direct and document faculty development activities in the design/production of learning materials in a variety of formats which would include print, graphics, audio, video, animation and multimedia to support teaching and learning, and college information needs.
· Work closely with other departments to assist with the development and coordination of assigned project initiatives, new distance education degree programs, budget development and strategic planning.
EXPERINCE/ REQUIREMENTS:
The ideal candidate will have experience working in education or training programs, as well as a strong understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing the Tribal community.
Experience in teaching basic computer programs.
Demonstrated communication and or customer service skills.
SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Experience in presentation tools and providing support in an academic environment. Understanding and commitment to the mission, vision and goals of LLTC. Experience working with the Ojibwe community. Demonstrated commitment to serving students from diverse backgrounds, interests, goals, and abilities. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Excellent interpersonal skills and a self-starter. Excellent organizational, planning, and prioritizing skills. Ability to maintain confidentially of records and information. Learn and Follow FERPA guidelines. Ability to interpret; adapt; and apply guidelines and procedures. Ability to develop and maintain recordkeeping systems and procedures. Ability to work effectively as a team member of LLTC. Must be in good standing with the community. Native American Preference.
EDUCATION:
Bachelor degree in Computer Science, Education, Business Administration or related field and two (2) years’ experience working in an academic or distance education environment. A Master’s in disciplined area is preferred and/or having a minimum of 18 graduate hours in discipline will be considered. Equivalent experience may be considered.
LICENSES AND OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
Valid Minnesota driver's license and current auto insurance.
Canvas certified. College will provide training.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $43,000.00 - $48,000.00 per year
