Professional 8. $44,869 to $53,843 annually, salary depending on education and experience; full-time, 12 mos., benefit eligible.

SUMMARY
This position is responsible for supporting faculty teaching courses in all modalities: online, remote, hybrid, and face-to-face.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Coaches faculty in the best practices of pedagogy and teaching of courses in a variety of modalities.
  • Provides support in the administration of the institution’s learning management system and ensuring it meets user needs.
  • Participates as a member of eLearning Committee to support the FVCC’s distance learning goals.
  • Works with the Teaching and Learning Committee and Human Resources to plan and provide professional development for faculty.
  • Reviews online, remote, and hybrid courses for quality and provides recommendations for improvements.
  • Translates data into useable and meaningful formats.
  • Creates and presents learning analytic reports.
  • Develops and recommends policies and procedures for distance education to faculty and administration.
  • Promotes, encourages, and executes programs of continuous assessment and benchmarking of goals, programs, and services, and communicates the results.
  • Ensures institutional compliance with NC-SARA and NWCCA standards for distance education.
  • Keeps abreast of the latest developments in applicable areas to help build strategic initiatives and remains current in practices, trends and research related to areas of assignment.
  • Cross trains to perform other departmental and team functions; backfills for staff as needed.
  • Actively participates in the development of a climate that promotes and supports innovation and efforts to continuously improve services to students, faculty, and the College.
  • Creates and maintains a collaborative and collegial environment with colleagues and maintains effective working relationships.
  • Maintains professional ethics and confidentiality of students in accordance with applicable laws and policies.
  • Advances the mission of FVCC by serving on or convening committees and contributing to the community in college-related activities.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Reports to the Vice President, Academic and Student Affairs.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor’s degree in instructional design, educational technology or directly related field from an accredited college or university, AND
  • Experience developing/teaching online courses, AND
  • Two years of successful teaching experience, AND
  • One year of experience administering a learning management system.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • Master’s degree in instructional design, educational technology or directly related field from an accredited college or university.
  • Two years or more experience developing/teaching online courses.
  • Successful college-level teaching experience.
  • Experience in project management.
  • Experience coaching instructors.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
  • Knowledge of Universal Design for Learning, backwards design, and other instructional design methods.
  • Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities.
  • Skill in using Canvas, Brightspace by D2L, and other LMS to build and teach courses.
  • Knowledge of current trends in distance education.
  • Skills in using OER and technology in course design.
  • Skill and ability to operate a variety of computer applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office and Google Applications.
  • Experience applying Quality Matters Rubric, Online Learning Consortium Quality Scorecard, or other rubric to evaluating distance learning courses.
  • Ability to create distance learning content using video authoring tools, HTML templates, and other appropriate tools.
  • Knowledge of accessible standards for digital content.
  • Ability to create and facilitate workshops for faculty professional development.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Ability to plan, design and manage complex projects.
  • Ability to work within policies and procedures of FVCC.
  • Ability and willingness to serve as an ambassador for the College by interacting appropriately with the college community and community.
  • Ability to maintain effective and positive professional relationships.
  • Ability to follow and issue directions.
  • Demonstrated communication, technology, presentation, customer service, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively with people from a variety of culturally diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to intermittently work non-traditional schedules including evenings, weekends, etc.
  • Ability to maintain regular and acceptable attendance levels.
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality.
  • Ability to successfully pass a criminal background check.
  • Ability to respond in the event of an emergency.
  • This is a Medium Duty job, according to the Selected Characteristics of Occupations Defined in the Revised Dictionary of Occupational Titles, U.S. Department of Labor and Industry. Medium Duty involves exertion of 20-50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 10-25 pounds frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds continuously to move objects.
